JPete9 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 What hardware is everyone running SnakeoilOS on? I am running a Pi4b and i honestly blown away by what its done for my system. I highly recommend trying it if you have some hardware handy (or can splash out for a Pi) I am not rushing to buy new hardware as this isnt lacking much and it's nice that i can change it substantially or subtly in software, where as if i was using a commercial streamer i would be churning devices. The UI is nice for Qobuz (can do tidal, spotify etc) if you add the material skin. In case people didnt know, here is a screenshot. Anyone got any Pi case recommendations? I was just gonna grab a $30 alloy one from amazon?

Had I known you had a Pi earlier, I would not have led you down the path of upgrading the Mac Mini power supply. My apologies for suggesting the Uptone card which you had to sell at a loss. 36 minutes ago, JPete9 said: I am not rushing to buy new hardware as this isnt lacking much and it's nice that i can change it substantially or subtly in software, where as if i was using a commercial streamer i would be churning devices. You mentioned you did not want to do projects, so not sure you want to explore various options. E.g on hardware side like power supply, different hats. With the BIOS, remove unnecessary ports and features. Try other players e.g. Mpd. Also on System tab, try RamDisk, CPUset, priorities.

There is at least one 32bit. 1
JPete9 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 (edited) No problem i had been considering the MacMini update for a long time and was prepared to give it a go...but once i installed Moode and Volumio i realised this could work, so put more effort into snakeoil. I spend all day in IT so i was initially looking for a purely non IT idea, i try and keep everything at home appliance based where possible. I've been trying the players. I think this will be an endless cycle I think i will try the spdif hat just to try it next. If you want a slick gui (i do) this is what i did instead of just launching the web browser and finding/typing the bookmark. I created a PWA (Progressive web app). Works in Chromium based browsers, like Chrome and Edge. It does not work in Mozilla. For MacOS 1. In edge go to edge://flags and change Insecure origins treated as secure to Enable and add your player URL in the box, click restart. eg http://10.0.0.100:9000/material/ this stops edge from displaying ugly https/cert warnings for this site only) 2. Launch your player in edge normally. 3. Edge Menu, (3 dots). Go to apps > install this site as an app 4. Drag the newly create app to the dock. 5. From now on, hit the button on the Dock. or Apple + Space keys and starting typing Logitech in spotlight. Neat app like window without a lot of browser stuff. Here the dock icon Hope it helps. The Casting stuff all built it makes it feel quite legit Edited August 12, 2021 by JPete9 1

JPete9 Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Directly via USB. Can do very hi res quite easily.

As @JPete9 mentioned, you can use any internal USB port or any other audio port, internal or external. Note that it is better, from a SQ perspective, for unused ports to be disabled within the BIOS. For example, in my Intel NUC, have disabled front USB ports, but kept the rear for keyboard and for booting via USB stick.
Grizaudio Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I recently install Dietpi, for a Roon bridge on my Pi4. I might give this a go....... Has anyone compared Dietpi v's Snakeoil?

Can't recall anyone mentioning Dietpi on SnakeOIl forum https://www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/ I suspect that Roon Bridge is not available on standard version but a small donation will give you access to the activated version. Note that you will need at least Raspbian Lite as the starring point.

I'm quite happy with Dietpi, I might try out of curiosity. I suspect there would be next to no difference.

Grizaudio Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 (edited) I tried registering with the snake oil forum so I could download the arm OS. I have no luck.... I am registered but have no ability to download the file... I get this message, any idea how long it takes to be approved? On a side note my Roon subscription finished yesterday so I played around with Audirvana and LMS. Audrivana has improved a lot, uPNP was stable and the annoying bugs I experienced a month ago, seemed to be few. I eventually ended up installing LMS on a Dietpi PI4 setup. I then installed plugins Qobuz and Material Skin. What I neded up with very much surprised me, a pretty modern interface and user experience. So after reading Snoopy's posts, I am keen to try Snakeoil, with Camillia (Active 3 way) and compare. @Snoopy8, Do you have any good links to get started with Camillia. I have read various threads however getting started seems complicated. Does Snakeoil make this process easier, regarding signal routing etc? I'm looking to get a three way running with an Okto Dac8 pro or Motu mk5 lite. Thanks A few pics of the LMS material Tablet/phone interface Edited September 4, 2021 by Grizaudio 1
Guest Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 @Grizaudio, suggest you send a message Agent Kith (author of SnakeOil); he is usually responsive and should be able to resolve your issues. Please have a look at this post on how to install CamillaDSP https://www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/Thread-CamillaDSP-for-Room-Correction?pid=4634#pid4634 The signal routing is using a CamillaDSP configuration file. Here is a tutorial to get you started https://github.com/HEnquist/camilladsp/blob/master/stepbystep.md

Grizaudio Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Just an FYI.... Picoreplayer is a good solution worth considering. https://www.picoreplayer.org/ The solution provides a single board solution for LMS and player, so no need to run a separate LMS server. Provides a nice management interface too. 1
PKay Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 @Grizaudiodid you get qobuz working with LMS? 1

It works perfectly on Dietpi and PiCorePlayer OS. Picore is the better solution if you need LMS and player on the same Pi4. Are you having trouble? Here is the interface via HTML on PC, I usually use an iPAD. Interface in mobile mode on phone/HTML. If you need assistance. please make sure you select the plugin, then hit apply, you must then upgrade the Qobuz plugin, for it to appear in the material skin. You then need to click on the plugin in settings to input your login details. Edited September 5, 2021 by Grizaudio

Works in single 'device' mode with Server and Client on one Pi, and also works just as seamlessly with server and clients separated. LMS brings all the streaming goodies (Tidal etc.). Install is simple (no need to get to Unix command level), as is top level interface if you don't have tech skills. But all the configuration flexibility / tweaking is still there if you need it. Grizaudio Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 I tried to get Snakeoil working on my Pi4. I had little luck. Clearly I am doing something wrong. I tried installing both the arm .sh file on ubuntu, and also tried the arm image. I could not get either working. Is anyone here running Snakeoil on Pi? Picoreplayer, Diet, LMS, Roon, Ropieee have all been a piece of cake.
