My bad, I thought you were on 1.4. With 1.3, you will need to download the deb file https://lyrion.org/lms-server-repository/ And SSH into instance and do a "sudo apt install (full pathname of deb file)"
mloutfie Posted January 27 Posted January 27 yep that's what I did actually download the deb package and install I manage to get around the error by calling sudo systemctl unmask logitechmediaserver.service then manually running /var/www/players/lms/start /var/www/players/lms 2>&1; then I restart. status is ticked but no access to http://serveripaddress:9000/ or logs

I did run LMS 9, Squeezelite V2 on 1.3 successfully. You can either post this error on the SnakeOil forum or install 1.4.
mloutfie Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Kernel panic on boot after updating one of the Ubuntu install. Looks like full reinstall it is. Lols
mloutfie Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) Sadly after all the works still not working. I want to put this in snakeoil forum but there seems to be any log I can find Edited February 1 by mloutfie

BioBrian Posted March 6 Posted March 6 They say to only change one thing at a time... My son updated my Snakeoil server and it all went fine: But we also fitted a 2nd (1TB) SSD to use as the music library - using the other SATA port on the mITX motherboard. This was a problem because we found that it had been used as a temporary Windows OS, so had to be formatted, which seems to have not worked well, as it didn't want to accept more than about 150 GB of music. Then we updated from JRiver 28 to 33 (Linux). JRiver wants to "Analyze" all music before showing up - this took many hours, and despite the SSD only accepting about 2/3 of the library, JR shows the entire thing, so I have no idea whether it's actually on the 2nd SSD or not! Anyway, it's playing music, but occasionally there are little 'bubbles' in the sound. Maybe once every 30 seconds, but sometimes a group of them together - tiny glitches, but enough to show that what's coming out is just a thin veneer that sounds like a cheap trick to make me think it's real music. Enough to chuck in digital forever! (That's how I feel every time a fault happens, then it's bliss until the next time). It's a complicated setup (Windows fanless mITX etc. computer talks to Linux server via an Uptone EtherRegen, which may be throttling the file transfer and causing corruption?), and I haven't made any progress sorting it out. I don't suppose anyone has had a similar experience, or could throw some light? Cheers, Brian.
MattyW Posted March 9 Posted March 9 (edited) Hey guys, I'm currently very happy with the performance of my Roon ROCK/MOCK however I remain curious about SnakeOil OS. I'm wondering what you would consider the benefits of SnakeOil OS vs ROCK? Can I for example host HQServer off it as well or something like that? I daresay each would be incredibly stable? Does SnakeOil allow the creation of SMB network shares while being able to specify the username and password? I see this a key problem with the ROCK image where Windows 11 considers the SMB share insecure due to its easily guessed username and password. Just can't easily access it. I imagine it will autoupdate Roon Server just the same as ROCK does so probably much the same on that front. Cheers Edited March 9 by MattyW

I'm wondering what you would consider the benefits of SnakeOil OS vs ROCK? The biggest advantage of SnakeOil OS (SO) is its SQ. I have heard an improvement in the SO Roon end point but have no recent experience with Roon Server. 3 hours ago, MattyW said: Can I for example host HQServer off it as well or something like that? I daresay each would be incredibly stable? Yes, Roon and Hqserver can run off SO, but we have not tested those extensively. Should there be a problem, the developer, Agent Kith, will likely release an update relatively quickly. 3 hours ago, MattyW said: Does SnakeOil allow the creation of SMB network shares while being able to specify the username and password? SO itself does not create SMB shares and you will need to use the Linux commands to do so. Maybe put in a request to add this as standard SO? 3 hours ago, MattyW said: I imagine it will autoupdate Roon Server just the same as ROCK does so probably much the same on that front. If the Roon update is within the Room Server, it will auto update. Otherwise, put in a request to Agent Kith to update SO.
was_a Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I've been listening to Snakeoil version 1.4.0 for a week and making comparisons, although comparisons weren't really necessary—it's so good that it's obvious right away. Snakeoil runs on my PC and is controlled via my smartphone. To my ears It betters every commercial Linux distro out there, and closes the gap on expensive dedicated audio servers by the likes of Melco etc. By far the best sound quality that I've achieved is with Audirvana Origin installed on Ubuntu 24.10; if any of you Snakeoil users haven't tried this I strongly suggest you do. The only niggle is that on Snakeoil load-up, Audirvana starts as a service before the network is running, therefore Audirvana Remote on smartphone cannot connect. I simply go to my computer, log into Snakeoil and stop and restart Audirvana via the terminal. A 30-second inconvenience. Once again, Snakeoil 1.4.0 is absolutely wonderful and I've already congratulated Theng Kiat on what I think is a real achievement. 2

The 1.4.1 alpha release sounds pretty damn good too - I’ve been running it for the past week. I need to switch back to 1.4.0 again to confirm what I think I’m hearing.

Read is enabled by default but for write you need to set user in SMB with the admin user. In Windows easiest is to map a drive 1
MattyW Posted March 18 Posted March 18 (edited) Awesome, well I've just recieved a new 500GB and 4TG Crucial SSD. I'll be giving SnakeOil a try with Roon Server and hopefully the SMB share works perfectly. Be interesting to see if there is any sonic difference from Roon ROCK. Possible perhaps. If no different sonically then I daresay I will just continue runnign SnakeOil. Relaible SMB access and the potential to host additional services makes it a superior solution in my mind. I've 3x Topton FU02 so it will be very easy to test the differences between this and Roon ROCK. Edited March 18 by MattyW 1
