I've ordered a Sette 270Wi, along with a vst 18gr basket. Looking forward to simplifying my "work flow"

Yes the beans are the basis of a great coffee as is how you store them. I tend to grind on demand and keep by beans in an Airscape airtight container as 1kg can last me several weeks. I get my house blend from a little roaster/barrista called Project Black in Mitcham. They are walking distance from me but make the best coffee I've tried in Melbourne. They only popped up around 2 years ago next to my local Coles. They have a Facebook page and very friendly, not pretentious hipster guys.

I can also highly recommend ONA coffee's Raspberry Candy blend which I get Cherry Ripe type hints from. Project Black used to carry this but only available from ONA cafe's or online now . Delivery from Canberra is expensive but I tend to split an order with friends to qualify for free delivery.

I buy green beans and roast my own. I prefer to roast to the very first snaps of second crack and then a forced air cool. That's a medium to dark brown with the oil just starting to moderate the full matte finish of the beans but with no oil actually showing.

My favourite beans are the east African (Ethiopia or close) and southern Arabian (Yemen—but the ongoing war and genocide... ). Some Indian beans also taste fine to me. If I get the best Ethiopian Sidamo beans and roast them right then there are tastes of chocolate fruit cake along with the coffee.

I've had only a very few nice beans from South or Central America but overall find them too bland and generic for my tastes.

All coffees are through an espresso machine.

Just got this ad in the mail (Fellow Ode Brew Coffee Grinder). Designed to be used as a weighed dose, zero-retention grinder. But as you've ordered - it's a bit late.

A general comment

Grinders have a huge role in the flavour profile of coffee - dare I say more than the espresso machine

Many years ago I went large conical and use a Mazzer Robur at home

That's a grinder for pour over/filter coffee. Not sure if grind would go fine enough for the 9bar pressure an espresso machine pushes water through the puck.

Anyhoo, after a little trial and error very happy with my Sette 270 Wi. Yes it is noisy but grinds a single 18gr dose way faster than my previous grinders.

The delay was me picking my jaw off the floor. Grinder for filter coffee? Hmmm.

Luckily we've still happy with a De Longhi we picked up nearly 10 years ago that works for both espresso and moka (just need to adjust the grind a couple of notches). It's also known as the second alarm clock - as you don't stay asleep once it starts grinding...
