betty boop Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) in this age of digital wallets and such, been steadily being frustrated with the almost 1" thick leather wallet been carry around. and then a short trip in regional victoria I cam across the Secrid... https://secrid.com/en-us/wallets/ it was a little demo showing how with flick of its switch 4 stacked cards poked out... and also amazed a little at the slim thin, compact nature of the thing also was amazed at quality of these ... made in holland...pricey for sure ... but about what would likely pay for a quality wallet. I went with a slim wallet.... https://secrid.com/en-us/wallets/slimwallet a sort of chocolate brown thing. was quite a challenge i tell you when went to transfer stuff from my old 1" thick fanfold wallet. to this. ended up with just some basic cards... like there is a flip out card holder where can keep my myki and still some pockets for driving license / medicare etc. and have found the card holder with ejector really handy with use over last week ! what have noticed is with quite a few cards in my digital wallet the need for carrying a lot of cards has reduced as well...making an easier task. cash wise have found the 4-6 notes in it works fine and use of cash has greatly diminished so no real need to carry that much more still amazed jeepers how slim small and neat this thing is ... not sure why have not known about it before as should have been using this for some years now what are other folks using ... have you swapped completely to a digital wallet ... or still carrying around a 1" thick conventional wallet or something more slim like the secrid here... Kaynin Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I bought a new wallet last year. You’re spot on, you get what you pay for. My last one was a Mont Blanc that lasted a decade. I avoid coin pouches, they add to thickness and chew through the seams. No photo compartment either, I’ve never used them. I’ve been happy with this one so far - 3
betty boop Posted May 16, 2021 Author Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) nice one @Kaynin mine has the same cris cross like finish too and indeed definitely seems to be, still get what pay for... oh yeah am done with coins too...seem to be what bulk up things and possibly even wreck a wallet Edited May 16, 2021 by betty boop 2
RR456 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I thought wallets had been relegated to history. I haven’t seen anyone carry one for a long time. Now with digital licenses and tap to pay, I don’t carry one at all, just my phone. That being said I guess a nice wallet is a nice accessory to have, but a bit like the redundant wrist watch that are more worn as jewelery than for any real purpose. Nice compact wallet by the way it does look good and practical as is small 2
Godot Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I've been using Bellroy, slim designs, 4 - 8 cards, no coins RFID option if you want that. Also some nice weatherproof wallets for outdoors / cycling which work well. Bellroy name comes from Bells Beach and Fitzroy. No affiliation, just have and like a few of there products 1

Nice compact wallet by the way it does look good and practical as is small nice one RR ...you have made the move ! ... well done ... still some ways off from that yet .... no digital license here yet unfortunately.... also things like health insurance ....still a card some other things still a physical card. even medicare card cant seem to include in digital wallet. amazing how many dont have digital alternative ... gosh in this day and age ! curiously my wife said she doesnt want credit card in the digital wallet ... as she rather not have to plug in code every time use it ... prefers the tap and go...ive kept the card versions of credit cards as they have the verification code on back needed at times....no myki digital card for apple phones either .... ps re the watch actually lived quite happily without a watch for some 20 odd years ! working in industries that didn't permit them ! only last 6 years been wearing an apple watch... more for health reasons will keep working on digital side see how far can go... loyalty cards... grrr anyone notice how many of those can collect not that need the frequent flyer ones for moment hehe @BLAH BLAH wow Colorado ! great to see doing wallets... they have always done some good quality stuff... 2

That's like the guy who applied hand sanitiser while smoking in his car. He made it out with minor burns but the car was a torch! 2
Addicted to music Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) Great topic @betty boop i use to buy the big brand high price wallets and was replacing them regularly, so many year ago, I walked into BigW and paid less than $10 for this waterproof wallet, lasted till the zip for coins broke! Lasted longer than any I ever had, I was done buying expensive wallets. Now I’m done putting coins in them, I leave them out altogether. I had one so long that it look that worn out, one of my overseas visitor questioned the boss; my wife, why I had that thing, and if it found outside In The street no one will go near it..... awesome me think, if I lost it and no one touched it I’ll be able to backtrack and find it . That said isn’t Apple Pay a wonderful thing, forget your wallet, use the phone, can’t wait till it replaces all the cards. I even taken a photo of my Medicare card incase one of the family members borrowed it, show them the pic of the card and it gets accepted. Edited May 16, 2021 by Addicted to music 2
AudioGeek Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I use the Ridge wallet to carry cards. A similar product is the Aviator. There are cheaper Chinese versions 1

I use this style wallet too Al, and have been for about four years. Does take a culling of cards to get it down to what you actually need though. Just be warned after a little while the tension that keeps the cards in eases off, and I have had a case where with wallet in hand, I swiped at a bee, and cards ejected themselves all over the carpark. 1 1
emesbee Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I have been using a very simple crocodile skin card wallet that I bought many years ago when I visited Darwin, just has two pouches for cards only, and fits easily into my pocket. It has now reached its end of life (is falling apart), and I need a replacement, but I have yet to find a wallet that will accept the same number of cards and fold easily into something that will fit into my pocket. All I need is something as simple as I had before, but can't seem to find one. 2
JC. Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Wallets. Such an old, outdated concept. My phone is my wallet, can definitely do all my day to day business with it.
BLAH BLAH Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I guess I'm still old school in regards to leather wallets until all the cards I need and use are conveniently digitalized...still their is the accompanying aroma of fresh dark brown leather to compensate for the wallet's bulk! I used my previous Colorado tri-fold for years till it sagged and split its compacted seams...not a good look (but soft!)...actually reminded me of my BBQ cover in dilapidation! I only ever carried the odd $2 gold coin inside it for use with Aldi shopping trolleys..the rest of the silver was turfed into the money jar (and doesn't that tend to add all up for Christmas $pending! ) 2

Yeah, its heading that way. I can remote start my car with my phone, but cant drive it without the FOB. Wont be long before we dont need keys either. But, at the moment still need medicare card, health fund card, work swipe card etc.

Low profile and easy access. Cant think of anything worse than lugging a big piece of leather around.
JC. Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 You can get an online version of the Medicare card, BTW. 3

(I ditched vinyl, cds etc 15yrs ago) At the end of the day its going to come down to personal preference. I would prefer leather, or in my case carbon fibre, to a rubber band (actually I could not think of anything worse lol). Thanks for the tip on medicare card, will explore it. Always nice to ditch one more card. 1

JC. Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 @AudioGeek no I have over 2000 vinyl and about 1000 CD. Go figure. haha. Don’t have to carry them around daily though. 1

I'm thinking the same thing about that tip of an online medicare card...and as for the use of a rubber band in holding the cards together...I'm thinking it may come in handy in hastening up a slow moving bank/supermarket line by flicking ears with it... ***Edit***...my new Colorado tri-fold also has RFID / NFC protection...
