Hoping for some advice on whether to get flights via Melbourne to Perth.

I see you are in lockdown again. Is it safe to transit through Melb airport ie is the flight likely to be cancelled or will i get stranded there?

Have there been any airport closures through the other lockdowns?

Cheers

I would suggest calling the WA government site and also your carrier. AFAIK the airport is not an exposure site, and the carrier may have options for you to avoid lockdown when you arrive. And it depends on the carrier as to whether your flight might get cancelled or not. If it's a lower priced carrier (like Jetstar), it's quite possible that the flight to Perth could be cancelled (I've been on a Sydney to Melbourne, in pre-Covid days, that had every flight from about 5:30pm until the last flight, at 10:30, cancelled because they weren't full).

Then again, you might simply have to re-book.

It doesn't matter.  The whole of VIC is tainted as far as some states are concerned,   including WA.

If you don't call, you'll never know...

And, if you haven't booked, don't come via here!

Well it can't hurt I guess,  but I reckon its  still too high a risk even if you get the answer you're looking for on the day you call.

Two blokes we had working in WA since 16/5 got a message on 27/5 instructing  them to isolate and get tested because they'd been in VIC within 14 days.  Both live in regional VIC and neither had been near any of the exposure sites or had any symptoms.   The recent VIC cases/exposure sites didn't even start until 18/5 so they posed  much  less risk to WA than anyone transiting through melb airport at the moment.

Thanks heaps for the replies. Will get the g2g sorted cheers

Bit the bullet last night and booked the direct flight from Bris.

Been a while since I've been in WA and will be good to be back.

Think I'll have time to check some of the hifi stores in Perth too :)

We had the same thing when we went up to Port Douglas in February. Had to spend two days in the hotel room waiting for test results to come back. At least it wasn't 14.

But considering the guy with Covid came back from SA on 4th May - I can see why WA (who have the worst contact tracing system) would be doing the full 14 day thing.

No worries, send me a message if you have time, I’m only 5 minutes from the city, just near Burswood. 👍
