karlie,

Just FYI , Kec got the AZ1 and many have already traded in their AX1 to do an upgrade.

I believe the Ax1 is going for about $1400 or there abouts there.

Hi,

I might be upgrading my Home-Theatre set-up soon; but my options will be limited by the price I can get on my current amplifier.

The DSP-A1 was the flagship when I bought it, but now there is the AX1 and the AZ1...

So what price would you pay?

I am planning to upgrade for a more music oriented HT.

So I don't know whether to go Marantz/Rotel/Denon.

BTW, dun expect too much musicality from a HT... me tried 2 do that /w my Rotel pre-power but I think it can never beat a true blue stereo.

However, if u wan decent music performance.. maybe u can try e pre-power way... get a good stereo power amp 4 ya front 2 get ya speaker 2 sing.

Karlie,

Currently using Accurus ACT3 & Sunfire Cinema Grand Combo... previously using Yammie 800.

The DAC's in the ACT3 put out pretty decent stereo which will IMO sound better than any mid level CDP's and do better than most AV Amps.

Separates the way to go.

Separate is the way to go if you want decent HT and stereo music reproduction. I am using separate now and it is very good on music and HT. ;D

Seb,

Can let me know more about Acurus ACT 3 DAC performance. Using $1k CD player as reference if possible, thanks!

For Karlie, this explain might be able to help you to judge how seperate is better than All in one AV receiver.

I know that when we talk about quality price is not necessarily good to measure, but what prices are we talking about?

If we look at Marantz SR9200 SR8200, Denon 5803, 4802 and a complete separate system (including cables), what prices are we talking about?

In general.. an entry/mid AV separate will cost e price of a highend AV amp/receiver.

Heres a breakdown of my entry Rotel pre-power.

Processor -> $1.25K

Power-amp -> $1.25K

2 x Stereo RCA (Front/Rear) -> $200

2 x Mono RCA (Center/Sub) -> $150

So end-up close to 3K... add another $300 to $400 for tuner + I/C

I am one of few users using a Roksan processor and five-channel power amp. Very warm and musical, yet smooth and clean sounding for home theatre. This is a truly music-oriented system that does movies reasonably well. If you like the Roksan Caspian signature, go for this combo.
