Hi all SHI FUs,

Need your personal recommendation.

I am looking for a DVD player with PROGRESSIVE SCAN .

My personal research had brought me to shortlist:

1) JVC XV-62SL ~$400

2) Poineer 633A ~ $500

3) Toshiba SD5300 ~ $500 ( my personal fav)

LATEST - Shinco 8700 ~ S$360 (my current fav) High Tech at Low Tech price. Life is fair, sometimes.

I am currently using Toshiba 43A9UE RPTV and Pioneer 525 DVD player.

Thanks for advice.

I would suggest you get the Shinco 8700 DVD-P, cheap and good (with PAL and NTSC Prog Scan) + play almost everything you feed him Cost only $360 from Merdeka Audio or pay by cash at $350. My friend bought it this afternoon.

Thanks DUCKLING.

Are you using SHINCO 8700 too?

Anyway i can see the picture quality quality.

I know the Pioneer 733A and Philips Q50 are extremely good, especially in ProScan mode, when the DVD disk has it.

I am a Techie at heart.

I know Shinco are made in China ...... BUT ..... I always know that Shinco DVD player are loaded with good stuffs. The problem ( good for us consumer) is the Chinese "borrow" the technology from OEMing for others into their own machines ..... wahahahahaha ....

As a matter of fact, I recommended my boss to buy a Shinco few months back!!! since his buget is tight.

OK ... me do research on Shinco 8700 now.

My brother just got the Shinco 8700PS DVD-P from Merdeka Audio @ $360.

He is connecting it to his Normal Conventional TV (no 100 Mhz / no Flat Screen) using one composite cable.

The verdict is: Very Good but the on-screen GUI and remote control are non-user friendly. Same goes to the manual, very bare and not detailed.

if my eyes didn't fail me, i think i saw one shop at SLT level 1 selling the shinco at $348....was rushing off so didn't ask and confirm....

anyone going SLT maybe can check on that??

in case my eyes 'shoot bird', i apologise first for giving wrong info.... ;D

the 8700ps can play almost anything in the market.afterall it is a Chinese product...but one thing tat I tend to agree with one of the guys comment..was its remote control which is not very friendly..and some of the control cant be activated via the set itself...

but for 360...dun expect the set to be perfect !!!

someone quoted 348 at SLS,,,pls check if it includes GST...most of the shops display price exclude GST.

regards.

oh oh , if teh remote can't function 100%, then you should send it for warranty repair.

Let the importer know the situation so that SHINCO can retitied the problem in their new batch.

anyway, i am quite determine to get this set ..... until you mention ..... haiz ....

I have a universal remote control, Marantz RC2000 ... old but bery gd and bery powerful ....

if teh shinco remote is just weak, like my marantz SR5000 AV amp remote, then no problem ....

You have the universal RC, can always learn the function from the Shinco remote.

I am using a Ucommand 515 Remote Control, learn all the functions from my SCV remote control...and it works much better.

There's nothing wrong with Shinco's remote. What cracker probably meant was that it is user-unfriendly as a couple of the functions that are normally present in other brands' remote are not on the Shinco's eg. Eject - Shinco 8700 can only eject disk at the set itself. But this is not unique to Shinco, the Philips Q50's remote is just as user-unfriendly and also cannot eject disk from the remote. On the opther hand, the Nintaus NV9769 though could eject from the remote, cannot power-off from the remote.

yup tat wat I meant,,,,I didnt say the remote control is faulty,,,,it is just user-unfriendly compare to my old hitachi set...else it is a real value for mony set.

Well, Skyworth has no local technical support and it cost abt $500 to order overseas....you may try hivizone.

In which case, would'nt it be cheaper and more preferrable to order the Nintaus instead, considering that the Nintaus does not have any 'delay-action' remote control problem and generally gets better user comments on the review33 forum?

Thanks Shi Fus Duck and PSChia,

I see .... me forget about Skyworth then. But the 1050P uses SAge chipset ... :P :P :-[ :-[ :P :P :-[ :-[ :-\

Where i get to buy this Nintaus?

Both the Nintaus NV9769 and the Skyworth 1050P use the Sage-Faroudja chipset. Norman Chan had organised a mass order a couple of months back for 10 sets of the Nintaus at about $360 each inclusive of courier delivery direct from the manufacturer in China for members of this forum. The PAL/NTSC progressive picture quality of the Nintaus is indistinguishable from that of the Q50 but it does have its own problems like almost every other brands of progressive scan dvd players

You can check out the threads concerning the feedbacks from the users' comments on their sets. Maybe somebody might like to organise another mass-order if there is sufficient interest.

Since there is no more mass ordering of the Nintaus, you can also get it at hivizone for $500!!

From my point of view: get the Shinco 8700!!
