variablefeedback Posted May 18, 2002 Author Posted May 18, 2002 I am using the Bionaire 15" version, VERY VERY VERY powerful, BUT also very not recommended becos VERY VERY NOISY. SEE ... LIFE IS FULL OF COMPROMISE. Get a smaller home version wan, good enuff and quiet enuff.
Guest queks Posted May 18, 2002 Posted May 18, 2002 But i thought hot air go in, hot air come out. ???
Guest duckling Posted May 18, 2002 Posted May 18, 2002 Got pple says it suck up the dust and circulate it around ur house as well. ;D
variablefeedback Posted May 19, 2002 Author Posted May 19, 2002 What to do? again, compromise. Oh yeah, hot in, hot out ???? Forget what you read lah, you can aim this Bionaire 15" version out the window, and IT WILL SUCK IN THE COOL AIR and exhale the hot air ( same for electronics ) becos it is too powerful .. and noisy too. and I live in a 107sq meter (total) 4A corner 4 rm flat with a square hall ..... and it WILL cool the hall. GET smaller one. Period. Sorry that we SIDETRACK so much. Anyway, my HT is in my bedroom ( I watch DVD laying) and I have a room dedicated to sound. My hall is empty .... http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/lokeks/lst?.dir=/Yahoo!+Photo+Album&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/lokeks%3fd%26.intl=us%26.flabel=fld3%26.src=ph Check out my hall .... no audio, no video .. PEACE. I wanna maximise my eqipement by putting them in an air-con environment so that I can relax and enjoy what I am doing, and of course, play them loud without "exciting" my neighbours. Got pple says it suck up the dust and circulate it around ur house as well. ;D

Aircon enviroment? Maybe you can fix one in the living room, which I am considering now. ;D
variablefeedback Posted May 20, 2002 Author Posted May 20, 2002 well, aircon is good for sound .... really ... try listening to music when u are perspiring ... !!! no .... I dun wanna aircon my hall !!!! no point .... a fan is enuff. My hall is for decoration only ... kekek I always stay in my room, room is smaller to cool. and I have a 12,000btu of raw power to cool it .. For hall, I advise you get 2 units at least 20,000btu total if you dun wanna overwork your aircon an make your aircon expensive decoration. also, to help with the cooling, blinds/curtains will help. oh yar, about special aircon windows, forget about them. there are windows for sound reinforcemnet - a vacuum between 2 glass - these are no cheap but good for aircon and sound, and extremely tough too. since you so rich hor ... kekekek ... might as well go the full monty, sound proof your hall. I have contacts. Not cheap, about S$3000 for ave HDB room, hall is not a room ... but that guy is mixing Sandy Lam latest ablum now. ;D seriously, joke aside. Anyway .... good luck in your quest for perfect sound and visions ... It's ppl like youself who pushes the final frontier to the ultimate limits ... and you are not alone my friend ... Oh yeah, come to think of it ... my Poineer 525 DVD player is gone. i gave it to my friend, a very helpful friend for teh past 2 years.
DaddyCooL Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 hmmmm....wazzup guys ;D hmmm.....i actually saw the pioneer 737 coupla mths back going for 500 at the best connection orchard was doing a clearance or something....long time never follow latest market pricings so dunno is expensive or cheap heh
variablefeedback Posted May 23, 2002 Author Posted May 23, 2002 Hi all, Here is the report on the HDCD capability of the Shinco. I had been listening to the unit for about 1 week now. So, as requested by some member, I brought my CAL AUDIO LAB ICON MKII (HDCD) with POWER BOSS UPGRADE into my HT. Analog cable is a Cardas Cross 1m/pr. Digital cable ( for comparison ) is Belden 1609 true 75ohm. I can say that transport side of the Shinco is very very good. When i compared the transports ( by connect the digital out of teh 2 units to my AV amp, using teh on board AV amp DAC ), the shinco holds up well against the CAL. AS noted earlier with the Pioneer 525, the shinco is leaner but meaner. Thus, it is more suitable IN MY APPLICATION. For HDCD, all I can say is that I cannot heard any SIGNIFICANT differences between them, if any. Take this with a pinch of salt though. I don't have a reference HT setup/amp/room, so this is JUST AN OBSERVATION only. I do have a good ear for music, let me warn you. I have a sound room and hi-quality audio system. I don't use any subwoofer, as there is no need for them in my small room. All the music is driven full range into teh main JMLAB AlCOR (almost full range) speakers thru Canare Professional 12S series spker cable ( thick, HEAVY guage and weigh a ton!! finally found the TIGHT connector to hold them to teh speakers ) . The limiting factor here is my amp, Marantz SR5000. EXCELLENT/BEST BUY for the price. Absolutely speaking, JUNK ( when compared to hi-quality reference AV amp and my pure audio setup ). Maybe I will start to upgrade the onboard DAC's all power supply caps and teh output op-amps. For those with the Denon AV1SE and a very good pair of main ( full range ) speakers, you can be a better judge. Another note: MP3 actually sounded not bad. Conerted WAV files from MP3 files sound almost the same. Small difference but nothing to shout about. So far, I am amble to play ALL my disks in my collection, as specified in Shinco's specs. As for the HT audio selection (D or DTS ), even I have to manually select on the Pioneer 525. Thus, no big deal if I have to do the same for Shinco. I find Shinco is better in this sense becos they never missed a beat in audio selection. You can do it in teh middle of paly and voila! DD5.1 or DTS for your calling. FOr the Pioneer 525, even after I selected DTS, it will lock in DD5.1 UNLESS I totally stop teh disk ( press STOP twice ) and go to the menu to select again. Also, I noticed that the VCD pictures had improved SIGNIFICANTLY. Normally, I don;t take note becos I knew that VCD sucks. But the Shinco had made them easier to watch. Anyway, VCD still sucks.
Jag Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Excellent review, variablefeedback! HDCD comparison is made by the analog outputs of the Shinco rite? A bit of uncertainty as u mentioned using AVamps DACs before doing your listening tests. Anyway, I too felt Shinco's HDCD output sounded slightly better than my run-of-the-mill Toshiba DVDP in my current setup. NOTE: It might not necessarily sound better on different setups. Hey, did anyone notice a "Pause" button is missing on the Shinco's remote? Or is it?
ongus Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Digital cable ( for comparison ) is Belden 1609 true 75ohm. Belden does not make cables with 1609 trade #, sure you have the # right?
Guest duckling Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Hey, did anyone notice a "Pause" button is missing on the Shinco's remote? Or is it? The "Pause" is there, shld be somewhere near the slow motion button. The only button which is missing is the "Eject" button. :)
pschia Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 .Also, I noticed that the VCD pictures had improved SIGNIFICANTLY. Normally, I don;t take note becos I knew that VCD sucks. But the Shinco had made them easier to watch. Anyway, VCD still sucks. The reason why VCD picture quality appeared to have improved significantly with the Shinco or for that matter, with any progressive scan dvd player, is that you are now watching them in progressive scan mode too.
variablefeedback Posted May 23, 2002 Author Posted May 23, 2002 I think so ... i need to check when i go hme. why ? are you buying ?? ++++++++++++++++++++++ Digital cable ( for comparison ) is Belden 1609 true 75ohm. Belden does not make cables with 1609 trade #, sure you have the # right?
ongus Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I think so ... i need to check when i go hme. why ? are you buying ?? No, not buying. Personally prefer not to use Belden cables for digital audio but their video cables are superb.
cracker Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 had tried the cd- audio via both the optical and analogue output.... there was a big contrast for info,,, amp = sony db-str940 speakers = MS 30i (floor standing) test disc = bee gees 2 disc greatest hit (HDCD) via digital,,,from shinco to amp's dvd optical input. sound is very boomy,,and there is some form of amplification being done via analog,,,,from shinco's audio analog to the amp's cd analog's input. sound is "cleaner" but seem softer,,need to increase volume to obtain same audio level as the previous connection. no time to try others cos went to see Star War,,,,shouldnt let yoda do the "wong fei hong" pose !!! but nevertheless great show. ciao
variablefeedback Posted May 28, 2002 Author Posted May 28, 2002 yup, it's belden video brillance 1506A cable and canare RCAP-C4F 75ohm connector. Digital cable ( for comparison ) is Belden 1609 true 75ohm. Belden does not make cables with 1609 trade #, sure you have the # right?
minyuan Posted July 7, 2002 Posted July 7, 2002 does this means that shinco 8700ps can plug into a normal computer monitor? for example NEC MultiSync 75F?
Guest queks Posted July 7, 2002 Posted July 7, 2002 does this means that shinco 8700ps can plug into a normal computer monitor? for example NEC MultiSync 75F? Yes, i used my lcd monitor to view dvd in my room.
variablefeedback Posted July 28, 2002 Author Posted July 28, 2002 Latest ...... Shinco De-interlacer chipset is used in Primare's latest DVD player. Now, who copy who?? I also heard from some old man that only China dvdp can play some old china movies in vcds becos of soem code. I heard, buti can't verify, take it with a pitch of salt, as far as i'm concerned.
