variablefeedback Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Hi all, I have a Shinco 8700PS now with 5.1 audio out. I also have a Marantz SR5000 with 5.1 audio in. Presently, I linked them up by a digital cable. Now, my question is: Which linkage is better sonically, digital or analog? Please share your experiences of YOUR OWN SETUP and EXPERIMENTS.
Guest duckling Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I prefer to use a high-end Digital Interconnect to hook them up, rather than using 5 Analogue Interconnect. The later would be much more costly, consider you're using high-end Interconnect.
Guest queks Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Save the trouble. Use digital out. I using 5.1 out only when connecting to my prologic amp. This will enable prologic to get DTS sound by using DVDP onboard DTS decoder.
davidLKH Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 You have to decide if the player or amp processor has a better 5.1 decoder (DD and DTS). You must also consider analogue signals going through the 5.1 interconnects may not be as good as a single digital interconnect. I think most of us with a decent amp sound processor would do the 5.1 processing in the amp and not the player.
Jag Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Sonically, it really depends on which digital path introduces the least jitter and noise. And also which DAC is better Theoretically, using the AV amps DAC will introduce more noise and jitter since longer transmission line inserts more noise than shorter ones. So, in this aspect, using Shinco to decode is better. Then again, AV amps have far superior DACs than a $330 DVDP. In the end, the av amp has got the edge over the DVDP. Practically, I felt the DVDP HDCD DAC did gave an output about 10dB softer than my yamaha 2200 DAC. I didn't bother trying on the Shinco's 5.1 output. I've got 6.1 on me yamaha anyway.
