luff1624705743 Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 I know Shinco 8700 is king around here :) What about these? ( Just saw it @ Harvey Norman) Pioneer 233 for $350 Pioneer 533k for $400 Worth it?
Jag Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Pioneer? They are reasonable for their price point. Shinco's VGA o/p suits well for panny users. Its got HDCD circuits too. Also Shinco has got progressive scan too. Many other features but at a cheap price.
luff1624705743 Posted May 24, 2002 Author Posted May 24, 2002 Heard from a reliable source that Pioneer plays OEM disk really well. Heard Shinco has a little problems with OEM disk. Is this true?
Guest queks Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 luff, read the thread in the forum and you will know. Seems like its opposite of what you heard.
Guest duckling Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Heard from a reliable source that Pioneer plays OEM disk really well. Heard Shinco has a little problems with OEM disk. Is this true? From my experience, the Shinco 8700PS reads better than my high end Pioneer 737 DVD-P.
ongus Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 From my experience, the Shinco 8700PS reads better than my high end Pioneer 737 DVD-P. That is because the Chinese players deliverately increase the power of their lasers thus enabling them to read the not so perfect OEM discs and even scratched ones. In the long run, however, this stronger laser will induce damage to your software. This info is from a friend who works as a Philips engineer in Singapore.
luff1624705743 Posted May 25, 2002 Author Posted May 25, 2002 wakarimashita 8) Will there be another MO on the Shinco 8700? (pay day is coming soon) :P
Guest duckling Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 wakarimashita 8) Will there be another MO on the Shinco 8700? (pay day is coming soon) :P MO or not, the difference is only $20. Chk out KEC or Merdeka...maybe the price have dropped.
variablefeedback Posted May 26, 2002 Posted May 26, 2002 I had delibrately BURNED my original CD with a 50cent lighter ( not warped, just very hot heat and then no damages to the plastic, cool it at room temperature again ) and played it in my Pioneer 525, NO PROBLEM Now, this is ONLY MY EXPERIMENT AND OBSERVATION, your friend might be right, but we are taking about very small power from the LED LENSE from the player, they are NOT designed to burn. Besides, the inside of the player MIGHT be hotter than the lense itself ( where it reads the DVD at that spot )., just like a stylus reading a vinyl. Only in this case, it's the foil. All i know for sure is that if you increase the power to the lense, the lense will "die" faster. May if you play the DVD continuosly non-stop for a few days, it might be damaged. BUT JUST MAYBE. my 2 cent worth, BUT STILL your friend might be right. DUn worry about that, dun buy more DVD, play them, enjoy them, store them properly, take care of them, and THEY WILL OUTLAST ALL OF US HERE. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From my experience, the Shinco 8700PS reads better than my high end Pioneer 737 DVD-P.
