wif 2 AV receivers (Dolby pro logic) wif front/center/rear and sub to be used for PC, which has a sound card support 5.1 and digital out (eg. Creative SB Audigy DE), wat will be the best way in connecting all these to have best result?

if u're using a SPDIF out from your soundcard, u will be stuck with dolby prologic decoding, since the receiver is the one doing all the decoding. If the receiver has multichannel inputs, then u shld use the soundcard's multichannel analogue outputs to connect to the receiver. Use software dvd players such as WinDVD or PowerDVD to play your DVDs, as they can decode DTS/DD 5.1/Prologic II

how to no whether the receiver has multichannel inputs? wat i tried was 1 AV to front channel of the soundcard, another AV to rear channel of the soundcard, both connected to CD. the AV connected to front channel driving front/cen and sub.

Ok, Gaghiel, connect HTPC Front L, Front R & Front ctr to AV amp 1.

Then connect HTPC Rear L, Rear R & Rear ctr to AV amp 2.

connect sub to the HTPC sub-out.

Connect spkrs to relevant amps.

U get home-brew DTS ES Matrix /DD 5.1 EX.

Provided that his amps have multichannel inputs. Gaghiel, u'll need to let us know the brand/model no. of your amps

thx

Denon AVC 2800 (driving front/center and sub)

Denon AVC 820 (driving rear)

both old model...not sure u all got heard of them or not...

yah, Denon 2800........... used to audtion them just before Dolby AC-3 materialsed from Kenwood and Yamaha.

Not sure about 820 thou......

But as u said, they are both PL amps, so no problem.

I think 3 multi-channel inputs needed for each amp..... don't think they both have it thou

if the connections as wat i mentioned above, will there be the effect as wat u mentioned, Jag?? i'm using PowerDVD to play DVDs...

Yes. I dun see why not. With multi-channel input, the front AV amp can amplify your FL,FR & FC analog signals from your HTPC.

Similarly, with multi-channel inputs, the rear AV amp can do the same for the RL,RR,RC analog signal from your PC.

You can also experiment witht he DPL decoder on the AV amp to produce the FC or RC if any amps don't have multi-channel inputs.

Not the best way, but, hey, we're just trying to be resourceful anyway.

i'm curious as to how u connect the front left, front right, and centre channels from your sound card to your receiver, as your AV-amp does not have multi channel inputs. ???

Mind if you enlighten me?

sorry to make u all confusing....i'm really new to HT, not sure whether i have made all the things clear or not....

for PC soundcard, there are 2 port(front and rear for those 4pt pc speaker) for 1/8" stereo jack....

so wat i'm doing is front port thru 1/8" stereo jack/RCA to AVC2800 (CD, using DPL), driving front/center......for rear port thru the same stereo jack/RCA to AVC820 (CD, using stereo), driving rear speakers.

just 1 thing i'm not so sure, issit ok direct connect the sub to the soundcard (creative audigy do provide sub out) instead of AVC2800 or AVC820? which way is the best?

Thx

Yeah, my advise is exactly as what u did. Its a good idea to use the AV amps DPL decoder since its the only wat to get Front Center channel.

Similarly, u did the same for the rear.

So u do get home-brew DD EX and DTS ES matrix! Well Done!

As for the sub, do try out all the methods to connect the sub. U'll be able to find out which gives the best bass from your sub.

Once again, I applaud you for being resourceful! Its a gift not everyone has.

Good luck! Let us know how it sounds, will ya?

sound quality need not suffer. if u follow my thread on mass order of M-audio soundcards u'll discover that u can get very good quality sound output from the HTPC, rivaling or better than sub $1000 dvdplayers. Only that u gotta splash about $400 for the card. But this is the price u pay for a low end or china made dvdplayer. to top it all, the HTPC is already progressive scan capable.

my next step should be upgrading my pc system, which now running at P3 500 Slot 1(OCed to 620), so not thinking to get a new soundcard. maybe yes in future. u all can give opinion once u all get the card.
