redryder Posted July 27, 2002 Posted July 27, 2002 I have quite an old player, about 4 yrs liao. Still can play dvds, but some of the buttons spoilt already. No component output, but anyway my TV doesn't have component input so it doesn't matter. What bugs me most is that navigating menus are super slow. Is it worth it to upgrade to a new player? I want a player which can play SVCDs and CD-Rs, and of course region free. Are the current crop of players any different from what I have now, other than SVCD/CDR/mp3 playback? Or should I wait for progressive scan players to be cheaper before buying?
sebastiansong Posted July 27, 2002 Posted July 27, 2002 If your TV does not have component input, I seriously doubt it can display progressive scan... getting a progressive scan DVD player without getting a PS tv is frankly quite a waste... dvd players are relatively cheaper now... for $269 you could get the new Pioneer 355 which would fulfil your requirements as well as reduce your frustration from faulty buttons
tcw Posted July 27, 2002 Posted July 27, 2002 What is the smallest TV that u can get with PS? Currently, only certain models of Toshiba & Panasonic 29" TV and above can display Progressive scan picture from a Progressive Scan DVD Player. (i.e. both TV and DVD Player must be Progressive Scan type). And the new Sony DR series 29" and 34" is the only Sony models that can display Progressive Scan.
