Jamiroquai Posted August 18, 2002 Posted August 18, 2002 Hello all, I am thinking of getting the Acoustic Energy Aego P5 (Home Theatre surround speakers with powered amp) plus a separate DVD player. This will cost me a total of some S$1800.00. The purpose is for playing Jazz music and the normal War DVD titles. I read 'What Hi-Fi' and personally checked it out at SLSquare where these speakers were very impressive. As I am staying in a 5 room HDB flat, I heard from others that I can easily get a similar one but more than half my expenditure if I should go for the all-in-one Sonys (DAVS500), Philips or JBL, found at 'Harvey Norman' and 'Best Denki' outlets. Something however on the contrary tells me that these units are only good for DVD movies and not for handling music playback from CDs? I can't really try these units efficiently, as these shops have too much noise from other units on display and the Beng saleperson, when asked to Demo music, will only play Ah Beng-Bass Galore Intensive, Heart Pounding disgusting techno music to test a HiFi! Any comments therefore from anyone as I am quite lost being very new to HiFi. Thanks in advance my gurus! ???
dbchoong Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 If you're not too particular about sound, anything will do. All will sound good. Personally, I always avoid "big" shops like Best, etc. as the prices there are not the cheapest. But of course, I guess you pay for the convenience. Anyway, I suggest you pop over to KEC @ Adelphi. You won't be met by Beng salespeople and they won't pressure you to buy buy buy... Tell them what you're looking for, what kind of budget you have and I'm sure they can show you something that might suit you. See their website: KEC (powered by Xtremeplace) ;D
