Jag Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Seems like from recent interviews (hometheaterhifi.com)from reps in DTS/THX/DD, there no new surround format in the near horizon. All focusing towards surround for computer gaming/automobile. No effort from Dolby to provide EX-discrete. DTS talking about their open architecture, supporting up to 10.2 discrete (hmmm...). THX still secretive.......... ??? ??? www.hometheatherhifi.com
Phil1624705739 Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Hmmmm.... look on e flip side.. might be good news 4 most of us.. Less temptation 2 upgrade... ;D Phil
tcw Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Trying new sound formats is tempting. :D But with the recession and reduced spending by consumers in the States and around the world, the dominant DVD mode will still remain 5.1 for quite some time. Also, the number of DVDs decoded in DTS-ES is too few to prompt any upgrade by the average user beyond 5.1.
Jag Posted November 15, 2002 Author Posted November 15, 2002 Have the bugging feeling that in the few years ahead, new surround formats would be released in HTPCs will be better than the same format released for AV receivers.
