Tried 3 new ones tonight. Kirin first press - fresh, clean, precious little flavour. I've had few beers as close to water as this.

Hitachino nest white ale - a Japanese brew, almost pure soap. I've had worse beers but this had me checking the label to see what gives. "Brewed with spices and orange juice" hmmmmm...

And now with a sail and anchor pale ale. This is a bit soapy too. Malt in higher concentration than citrus but it's still not quite right.

The beer gods are not loving me tonight

Haven't tried the first two - but I got enough Listerine to last me anyway..

I agree on the Sail & Anchor too -- bit too much malt for me, but I know others that like that profile....There are better pale ales....and these days no shortage to choose from. My favourite is still 3 Sheets Pale..

Just checked out pirate life at the beer cartel (no local stockists) it could be a little while before I'm tasting some of them

I don't get the can for the Pirate Life beer, big alchohol content so probably a full flavourful beer.

For me, i like my beer dark and strong..... Oh and preferably in a dark bottle.

Just in from a weekend passing by Eagle Bay (Cape Naturaliste, WA)

Eagle Bay Vienna Lager

Eagle Bay Summer Ale

Eagle Bay Mild Ale.

Both first ones leave a more bitter aftertaste, but nice. The mild one is just perfect. So much so, you could easily exaggerate with it, being mild and all....

Almost visited Bush Shack Brewery, but had to give it a pass. They only had "flavoured" beers, strawberry, ginger, chocolate, et al. Not my drop to be honest, maybe only as a distraction.

Believe or not a lot of brewers prefer cans as it keeps the beer fresher for longer.

All things being equal I prefer bottles too but cans do have their merits

Gee is that bottle sideways.

When you have had too much and come out of the coma on the floor this will be the first thing you see.

I vastly prefer cans over bottles....bottles are too heavy, fragile and leave voluminous rubbish bags.

Hee Hee - I'm the opposite. Because I can't reuse cans. Although the only ones I can really reuse are Coopers, as all the rest are far too fragile for bottle (secondary) fermenting beers. I had a 640ml one of these last night. Still fresh, flavoursome and improving. Totally integrated, which is not something I could say 14 months ago. Sorry, but I don't have a picture of the bottle, just the labels:

Above 10%. That's more of a wine.

There's wines out there less than 10% and beers out there more then 10%. It's the ingredients, not the alcohol. And I couldn't get the depth of flavour (or, possibly, the longevity) without a bit of extra alcohol. This continues to improve in the bottle for about 4 years and stays at that level for another 2-4 years - assuming you keep it in a dark place, and relatively cool.

And I was trying to respond in a way that indicated as such - but I stuffed it up. If you're down this way (Mornington Peninsula), I invite you in to try some (as long as someone else is driving).

The 2014 will be gone soon, but I'm planning on the 2016 to go in the fermenting barrel soon...

Would love to! We could just call Uber or @@Sime without telling the government about his tax obligation I'm sure.

What?@@davidro

@@Cloth Ears proposed drinks with a designated driver and I said we could just use Uber. I recalled that you were sorta keen on the job but gave up due to the tax obligation.

Was just clowning :)

Failing that   https://www.boozebud.com.au/brand/Pirate-Life-Brewing/f24b1b5c-10dd-407e-9054-ca2cfd87cd47?t=beer they dont have the IPA or the Hopco Pale as yet but they were only released in SA a week ago. But the IIPA is quite possibly the best beer I have ever had.
