I note there is a beer coming out of Mornington peninsular -- Not So Cereal..Its a PA brewed using rolled oats..

Looks like Beer Cartel have got all three Pirate beers in stock..

Interesting. I use rolled oats, or spelt if I can get it, cooked dark in the oven and then soaked for 24 hours, to provide body to my beer that would otherwise not have the same rich mouth-feel. I only use about half a kilo for the full 60 litre brew and it doesn't add that much in the way of flavour. But it allows me to create a rich beer without the downside that too much malt gives it.

I'm gonna have to start brewing on my own. At the moment it's just my better half, on the U-Brew-It machines.

Not complaining! Just a new hobby I'll have to look into....

N.B. I cheat. No brewing from grain, I use kits for consistency, and then alter them by select use of flavours (burnt malted barley for dark colour and bitterness; liquorice, vanilla and prune juice for sweetness; malts for mouth-feel, flavour and an underlying sweetness; dried corn syrup and rolled oats/rye/spelt for thickening; dextrose for added alcohol; and other flavourings for various small changes). The differing yeasts add other things also, the earlier ones provide the main style of the beer fermenting, while the last one I use (Mangrove Jack M27) means I can reduce the sugar levels enough that the beer is almost dry. The hops are mostly added after the initial fermentation (dry-hopping) to provide less bitterness and more flavour and smell.

For a cheater you know your business! I'm barely in diapers in this game yet, but since I have the rest of my life to brew beer, I'll start with crawling I reckon... :)

Get yourself a logon on Aussie Home Brewer forum and ask a couple of questions. Something as simple as a Coopers kit'n'kilo brew kit would be enough to start you off (I'd suggest an ale, not a lager, as your kick-off point). And once you've got one brew that's worked, you can look to either saying "that's enough for me" or "hmmm, what next?" And you'll be able to find info on local brew shops from that site also.

@@Muad Dib was fun at the time though. :D

I am trying a carton of Singha. It's nothing flash, quite soapy IMO.

Not as good as their Aldi effort, Leo, which is also cheaper.

Just had an Asahi from the tap. Seriously good beer.

Doesn't bother me, I mean who drinks out of the container? Man has evolved to use beer glasses ;)

I there I was in my day only looking through beer glasses!

God and his lad really knew marketing! What with all the water into wine and stuff...genius!

I'm pissed off with the amount of varieties of different beer these days, only as they didn't have such a variety when i drank, it was mostly a choice of cold or warm in my day :D

Have never seen it on tap, that would be good!

Today had an Asahi Black from tap at another place as well. But I prefer the blonde Super Dry. Asahi belongs to Schweppes Australia. I guess it's not that rare to find it on tap here.

Hahaha...not a chance, rather stay as is over the chaos that would follow that change :D

That's for myself, if others can stick to moderation and it doesn't adversely change their behavior that's OK  :thumb:  Doesn't follow when It's me.

Edit: back to normal viewing

Heh I can never understand how one can change so dramatically when pissed. It just makes me relaxed and sleepy. Hate the hangover that's for sure.

Alcohol alters the chemical processes in the brain, pretty basic stuff....... it doesn't always start out as a dramatic shift in personality change, but can progress to it over time in some people....I was some people.

It causes complete brakes in pathways, this is how blackouts come about....they are a true form of amnesia in a sense.

Edit: not the thread for this talk though.

Sure but lots of people start right away with the dramatic shift, and I could never understand how that happens. Obviously individual differences but it was not something I've experienced.

Like I said, It's changes the chemical processes of the brain, in everyone, the degree of effect is variable.

Again, not the place to discuss this. Edit: BTW, the person effected is not always aware of how much it effects them.

The difference between, tap, can, bottle and keg can be quite striking. Going to have a few Hawthorns off tap today at the local.

A few months ago I would have said bollocks. But having recently enjoyed quite a few Sierra Nevadas I am prepared to reconsider.
