Ong Hai Peng Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Are you aware of this old thread in Echoloft? http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=tell&action=display&num=1048034454
Guest francis woo Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Tks for the tip. Where is Audio Jas!! They are not listed in the Telephone Exchange!!
Goldberg Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Audio Jas is now known as Jay Audio. They are located @ Lavender Place (next to Eminent Plaza & Lavender Food Sq). Call Jay @ 67550646 b4 you make your trip there cos' he only open shop after 2pm or sometimes he's out for delivery. It's a one-man operation. Very friendly & likeable chap.
Darthfunk Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Tks for the tip. Where is Audio Jas!! They are not listed in the Telephone Exchange!! Bro do share your experience after you review them. Also remember to help us find out about their prices ;D
Goldberg Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Got a friend who used to own dynaudio contour 1.3se & contour ctr for his HT. He has since changed them to aurum cantas (yes, they produce excellent ribbon ctr spkr too). I still own a pair of dynaudio 1.3se for my stereo and love it. In terms of bass, my 1.3se is better but can't match the high extension of aurum cantas ribbon tweeter. With a good sub as in my friend's case (REL Storm) his HT 5.1 audio excel and is more enjoyable and involving especially with live concert.
Guest francis woo Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Called up Jay Audio and was told that they don't have stock therefore cannot audition. They are now bringing in the newer models, bookshelf V3M at $2,500.00 and the floor unit V6F at $4,000.00. Ask me to call him end of the month when new stock will be arriving. Apparently these have been selling well here!!! At these prices, I am surprised!!!
Goldberg Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Heard V6F @ Jay's shop 2 month ago. I like it alot especially when play it loud with rock music like Nirvana & Queen, the bass was fast & tight. Of cos' other genre of music was equally impressive. What draws my attention to it is its price/performance ratio. My choice speakers is JM Lab Diva Utopia BE (cost around $18k) which I can't afford so my next choice is V8F which is also using 8" woofer as Diva Utopia a close alternative. I did ask Jay about V8F then but he can't confirm whether he'll bring in. Need to hear & compare the different in terms of sound quality & price. Jay is also dealing with Utopia series so A/B audition is easy. Hope he'll bring in V8F then I can decide. http://www.aurumcantus.com/aurumcantu-loudspeaker/loudspeaker_v8f.htm
Guest francis woo Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Guess the V8F wud be in 6,000K region looking at the specs. Estatically, it looks beautiful and grand. Keep me informed if you are going down for an audition on any AC speakers. Wud be very, very interested. I have placed order for the Leisure 2 (Luxury version) Mk 2 for us$433 as recommended by Snowy of Cattylink. Hope he is not wrong... ;)
Goldberg Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Heard Leisure 2SE MkII 3 years ago at Jay Audio. The ribbon tweeter is good and the bass is ok for the size but still not good enough for what I'm used to. Anyway for that price you can't ask for more. V3M & V6F are entirely different beast as compare to the Leisure that's why Jay didn't want to bring Leisure series in anymore. Hope you don't change your mind (which you will) about Leisure 2 after hearing V3M. Of cos' I understand budget is a constraint. ;D
Guest francis woo Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 The Leisure 2s will be in my bedroom. I spoke to Snowy from Cattylink and he said that price to performance, the new v3m and 6f are not worth it. For that kind of pricings, there are other good alternatives like the Vienna Acoustics and the Thiels. Maybe you shud to audtion these and compare!!
Goldberg Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Like I've said earlier hopefully Jay brings in the V8F. $4k for the performance of V6F don't think you have that many choice. :'(
Guest francis woo Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 If you are really interested in the V8F, take a trip to Hkg and audition it at Hi-Fi-Tone in Mongkok. Cud be even cheaper getting it there and shipping it to Singapore.. :)
Goldberg Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 ;D Fly to HK just to audition the spkrs? No way. It's a huge spkrs. If anything goes wrong then I'll have problem. Anyway, it's not die die must change spkr lah. I still love my Dynaudio very much but if V8F can outperform it by a certain extend then it's worth considering a change. Until Jay bring it in there's no way to tell. Checked with Jay yesterday, he say maybe, just maybe he might bring it in cos' he heard it in China recently, at the manufacturer very huge demo room. He agrees the performance was good but worry it might be too big a sound for a room set-up like mine. Wait and see. ;)
Guest francis woo Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Got a quote from Hi-Fi-Tone at HK$16,000.00 for the V6F and HK$20,000.00 for the VbF. If firmed, can maybe reduce by about 2 - 5%. Can consider lah!!!
Goldberg Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Haha, no intention to get from overseas. I rather have a peace of mind if any problem arise. Big speakers problematic lah. Small one still ok. Wait for V8F to come first lah.
Guest francis woo Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Yesterday, my friend brought his Dynaduio Audience 42 to my place for a listening session. How does my Aurum Cantus compares to the Dynaudio Audience 42. Playing the track 'tin pan alley' from a SRV cd, the Aurum sounded smooth, had adequate bass punch, deep and wide soundstage and a little laid back on the guitar lead and snare attack, overall quite well presented. The Dynaudio, however, was up a notch. There is more bite and aggressiveness, same deep and wide soundstage, bass was punchier and livelier. I admit that I prefer the Dynaudio here. It sounded right for this genre of music. However, when it comes to vocals, the Aurum really shines, beating the Dynaudio brashness with sweet, mellow and extended high. You can listen to the Aurum for hours without getting fatigue. The Aurums look high-end and to me, sound high-end (well......almost) for the price of S$650 and I wudn't trade them for the Dynaudios at S$1,800. For the budget consciouses, look no further. Don't believe me, come and have a listen and you will be amazed........ :) (MHZs CD88E cdp + Ming Da MC34-A06 tube int amp + belden 1313a cables)
hifiluv Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 yes, was at his place over the weekend, the combi is sweet and soothing, can listen endessly.. ;D a real good looking pair too..... ;)
Guest francis woo Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 BTW, I forgot to mention that the speakers are placed on bar stool stands which is not the proper way to site any speakers for that matter. Image if proper speaker stands were used, the sound wud be up a notch and once run in (now almosts 18 hours)......hmm....... :)
Goldberg Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Hehheh, good that you enjoy it. I'm still waiting for the V8F. Checked with Jay last nite, he don't have a clear date from the manufacturer due to order from overseas since Jay only order a pair of V6F & V8F for his showroom. BTW, he said his shop will be close from fri to next tues as he's attending the HK HiFi Show.
Guest francis woo Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Just to let you know that I have already made appointment with HifiTone in Hong Kong to audition their V6F this weekend. They don't stock the V8F but can order them if you want them. I am really looking forward to this and if the price is right, I may consider buying it. ....stay tuned....... ;)
Goldberg Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 You'll be amaze by V6F performance. The bass is tight and solid. The mid is sweet and just right. The high is extended and airy with wide soundstage. Of cos', you'll need ample power to drive them to get the best out of it. I've heard them months ago at Jay Audio b4 a customer bought it. We put V6F thru' jazz, blues, classical to pop & rock (Maroon5, Dire Strait, Queen, Nirvana). For a Dynaudio fan like me, the V6F is really impressive. BTW, how much is Hifi Tone selling V6F & V8F?
Guest francis woo Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 HK$16,000 and $20,000 respectively. Not discounted yet! If I can get around HK12,000 for the V6f, I will buy it.
