The amari model should be exactly same like audiodesk, could be different in cavitation and frequency (not sure) . i think even the roller brush interchangeable between them.

Yes. Amari is actually same as Audiodesk RCM & even the roller brush can be use for them.

Some more famous brands build components in China too.

As Cook said - nobody gets stuff built in China because it is low cost anymore. It isn’t. Hasn’t been for a few decades. What you get is certain skill sets. With a kind of depth you don’t get elsewhere. And an abundance of them

Same thing with supply chain and logistics

It had nothing to do with Thiel and their designs but greedy VCs who thought that they could ride on Thiel's reputation and goodwill. They failed miserably and dragged everything down.

Know of any speaker designer able to take thiel's phase coherence design and time coherence to the next level, hypothetically speaking that is.

Vandersteen, presumably, has a few models that perform well above cs3.7

Other brands like evolution acoustics - great reputation, but too bloody expensive. And have never had their speakers verified (with measurements) that they are indeed phase&time coherent. Some people are not fond of their mtm designs either.

Not that I know of and I have been looking. It's not easy to find off the shelf drivers from the usual suspects like Scanspeak, SEAS, Dynaudio and even SB acoustics, that can be used in a 1st order crossover design, with minimal distortion. All of Thiel's drivers are custom designs, meaning they exhibit low distortion even at high volumes except for the tweeters. The same goes for Vandersteens as well as what Jerome said. Their midrange drivers are highly unique.

As for being time aligned, heck, you need pretty fancy cabinet work and that is not cheap.

My solution of getting Thiel sound on the cheap? Buy their Higherplanes, Powerplanes and Powerpoint in-ceiling/in-wall speakers used and put them in an enclosure. There will a lot on the market. Remove the high pass filter capacitor. You can use a 16l ported enclosure as a 2-way or partner it with nice fast bass woofer, in a sealed box. That's what I did.

What a pity… Although, anyone who’s had anything to do with Thiel Audio during Jim’s days definitely saw this coming when the new buggers abandoned all the key design values… Classic case of complete fcuking boneheads rednecks taking over a company and destroying it from day 1 ::)

Woman also is redneck?

Take a look at Trump’s base in the south… Man, Woman, Children even…  :P

Hi all,

Have got myself a Thiel CS2.4 recently and am having problems with placing it properly.

My room is approximately 4.7m long and 2.9m wide.

It is a dedicated listening room in a 4-room HDB flat.

Any recommendations on how to place the speakers?

Imaging is so far so good. However, the bass response is pretty much different when I stand to listen (much better) as compared to when I am sitting.

An current arrangement of my room as per the picture below.

Appreciate all responses for experimentation.

Thanks in advance.

Remove the unused speakers from the room.

Start with 1 speaker first

Disconnect the other speaker

Put tape on floor near the speaker on test

Play a track with repetitive bass rhythm and kick

Slide 1 speaker forward & backward till you achieve combination of deep bass and soundstage openness

Ideally the sound bubble should image behind the speaker.

Mark the position from the front wall

Position the other speaker to mirror this speaker

I think you may find the new positions to be closer to the front wall, which is a good thing, because it certainly helps to put the speakers some additional distances from you - it will certainly achieve better time-alignment throughout the entire frequency spectrum!

Disconnect all speaker cables, let them all drop to the floor. Then pick them up gently to plug them in again.

This is necessary to remove tension from speaker cables after you have moved them.

Put large objects behind sitting position to act as diffusers

Not sure whether your toe-in is as aggressive as suggested by your picture. But have the speakers fire straight ahead or with just a little bit of toe-in. This will maximise soundstage width - you will need to move the speakers backwards, or your sofa a little bit back to get sharp imaging. Thiel speakers have fairly good off-axis dispersion.

2nd watchdog's opinion, Tim, don't point them straight at your ear.  Also, if you read Stereophile's review of the CS2.4, best to listen with your ear slightly below the tweeter level if you want to avoid a 1kHz suck-out. As for the bass null at your listening position, thats definitely room related, try moving your listening position and/or speakers, backwards/forwards etc. with a test-track disc, like Stereophile's Test Disc with warble tones, that'll help your fine tune the listening position.

Have fun, good luck. :)

Hi Andrew,

The bass null only happens when I am seated. Sounds definitely better and Thiel-like when I am standing.

Can't really hear the radiators producing anything.

But the weird thing is that when i stand behind the speakers, it's deep.
