redryder Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Thanks for all the advice guys, but I've decided to give up on my nespresso capsules. I bought a grinder, a moka pot and an Aeropress to play around with. I also bought some beans from Holland. So far the Moka Pot has been great and I'm loving the coffee I get out of it. Aeropress has been more tricky, the coffee sometimes comes out thick (which I like) and sometimes weak. My question is - where do you guys get your roasted beans in Singapore and what prices are you paying? Any decent roasters in the western part of Singapore? Can I use coffee beans from HDB estates or wet market stalls?
Eric Teh Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Highlander Coffee and Spinelli are good places to start. Generally the beans are quite freshly roasted. No, you can't use wet market beans. Those are Robusta cut with margarine and sugar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Order a Brazilian aeropress at Highlander walk a few steps down and order an equivalent at Nylon. Taste the difference and see why Nylon won the aeropress championship although Highlander brought the stuff in. Nylon aeropress quality is very consistent so you might pick up a tip or two. ;D
redryder Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Anyone bought supermarket coffee beans? Like Boncafe or UCC. How are they compared to the pricier ones sold in the speciality coffee shops in Singapore?

wizardofoz Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 anything you buy in a supermarket is going to be at least 3-4weeks past the roast date and unfit for decent coffee...if it already ground then forget it. you need to use the beans (kept unground) from 1-3 weeks max after roasting...they need to develop after the roasting for about 4-5 days before you use them or they have too much gas releasing. after 4 weeks from roast date I will toss unless I am desperate...normally use within 2 weeks of roasting if I can
