sorry guys, I don't have elaborated graphs to support my liking, simply use my hearing to judge ;  why not just disable those settings and make a immediate comparison. can just turn it off if you don't like what you are listening.

I would love to but my 8500 is packed up now. Will definitively try it out when I hook it up.

Personally I’m not really surprised reading the article from the designer, I think he is just being plain honest

Firstly, the chief engineer/designer for audyssey no longer works for audyssey. D&M has the full rights, how they intend to implement, is down to D&M only.

Room correction software requires enormous amounts of processing power. I can see why his hands are tied, he has to provide something for the market, single box solution. But he knows, this is not the maximum performance . In order to achieve that, separates are required. (This is also why the Oppo 205 is so good for music compared to the Lyngdorf, the demand for processing power is way lesser)

Secondly, he also knows, the other problem with audyssey is the ability for it to blend in the mains and subs. When audyssey is engaged, it does correct for individual speakers, subwoofers and the room. It “doesn’t” provide integration of the mains with subwoofers. Let’s say the AVR sets the mains XO to 40hz post audyssey, the users then change this to 80hz, what do u think will be results from that ? The timing elements of the response will be out, this will muddy the system as a whole. It is audible listening to music and even HT. Let me illustrate below on why

Thirdly, as pointed out in previous post, DEQ and dynamic volume, just takes away the clarity, again this has been verified many times personally. So not surprisingly , coming from the designer himself, why he turned this off.

Whilst room correction is beneficial for HT where tons of speakers are playing simultaneously, for two channel music, room correction is not necessary if one has a reasonably good treated room.

The only part that I cannot apprehend is the part he needs to set LFE at 250hz. This is pretty weird as we know the avr trim settings have the LFE +10db louder than the rest of the channels. For music, I wonder why would a sound mix engineer wanna have content in the LFE. As the word suggest, LFE is Low frequency effect, it’s special effects. U don’t need special effects for music , do u ?? So this part I cannot understand, makes no sense to me. Stereo bass is good enough. LFE should never go higher than 120hz IMHO

On why the the users will still need to blend in mains + subs post audyssey. Lets take a simple example when users set the XO on AVR to 80hz, with LR 24db oct on both

The below is when subwoofer impulse and mains impulse, both centred at 0. = no integration done to match centre+subs. Just individual correction

105c329969b75e515b922d35b71478c0.jpg

The results are a cancellation at the XO region

805803329e6bf9a4e46fff2b3e62b4b7.jpg

Instead, delay all subs simultaneously by 5.4ms, as can be seen below

3b8d79b7ab6703d6f64e278560d39701.jpg

And you get a perfect summation at the XO region , highlighted in blue below

Invert the polarity on the subs when u have a perfect alignement, and u get this

ff0f50fbb45db248b0905cb7cde0586e.jpg

Another cancellation.

Room correction softwares, altar the timing responses of the equipment. What it doesn’t do as a follow up, is to blend them all (that 7.2.4) into 1. This is the part that is missing

This part if not blended in well, will affect the entire soundstage because every single speaker needs to blend in with the subwoofer. I can understand why he turned audyssey off

I was in the same shoes in the past, but I’ve crunched it, gone past this stage .

So yea, those who decide to go with a 80hz XO, that’s a starting point, 4-6ms delay is a starting point. Best of u have REW. Check for the delays between both mains and subs, apply it to all the channels post audyssey. That way, you will have corrected speakers, subs , room, and it’s perfectly time aligned

How to do it, is another topic... lol

We are not asking you for technical graphs to prove or disprove anything lar...just merely asking for your experience - i.e. a narrative from a user perspective.

I have tried the settings recommended by the article...it didn’t work for me for majority of the movies I’ve watched. Hence we are pleasantly surprised to know you like the settings - I.e. Turn off Audyssey, DEQ etc...

Still waiting. Hopefully within next 3 months. Our brothers in the construction industry are ill now.

Oh yeah hor. It’s a very timing for those gonna move house.

Dedicated HT room bro? PM me if you need a builder for your home.. Don't get a square room haha :D

Will be setting up in the living room. 5.2.4 setup.

That will be a challenge...

Describe your connection at the rear of your AVR and subwoofers.

One rca cable to each of the subwoofer out behind Denon panel

X1200 will sum 2 subs as one and you will see one sub in the setup menu.

Only one sub is working when I did the sound test

I saw other setup shows 2 subwoofers but so far none of the menu allow me to change the number of sub to 2

Yes, that’s correct. The 2 subs will sum as one, you can’t adjust individually. Only Model X3600 and above will have SubHT and you can adjust the setting of the subs individually

Yes, for entry level, there is no SubEQ HT if the Audyssey package is not Audyssey MultEQ XT32. Even if you see 2 Pre-out (SW 1 & 2) for 2 subwoofers, it will be a summation of one.

But only one sub is working when I calibrated using audyssey

Did you connect to the right Input on the subwoofer that is "not" working?

Same input as the other sub [emoji3]

Both are same model same brand

Somehow 2nd sub is not detected by the avr

Can you take a pic of the cable connections at the amp and subs?

Odd that shouldn't be the case. Let's first check if the interconnect is working fine. Can do a swap with the one that connects to the working subwoofer...audyssey calibration will usually kick off with subwoofer SPL level setting at +/-5db @75db. It will cycle between 1st and 2nd subwoofer to get the SPL level in line with the rest of the speakers once calibration kicks off. What does the AVR show?

+1...it should be relatively simple and straight forward. Nothing to setup except that you need to ensure Pre-Out will go to the RCA input of the subwoofer.
