Here we go , 3700,4700,6700h , hdmi 2.1, dtsx pro.... video by youthman

I considered most of Youthman’s videos as a infomercial vids. While most of his videos lacked the depth and breadth (mostly talking about his experience of using the products). But it is still fun watching him talking so passionately about his HT experience and the products he reviewed. He adopts a friendly and relaxed posture to all his videos. His khakis like Joe n Tell and Techno Dad are a delightful bunch of dudes hanging out in Zoom talking about HT.

To me,  probably being able to have 2 Speaker/Audyssey settings and the QSM will interest me for now. Wonder whether the 8500 hdmi upgrade will support these?

Why put yourself into this stressful mode?

You got a 8K display?    You got 8K playback source?    You got 8K media?

Totally unnecessary.

Now just want a good and stable product.  :D

Even if I got my 8K display, my 8K playback source and my 8K media......now.

I don't need the upgrade because I would just connect the player directly to my display.  Playback source comes with dual HDMI outputs these days.

Problem solved.

+1

That’s the best, I do that as well, go directly from player to the Pj or display. Somehow from my experience, the display Device always have an edge with video processing, assuming they are all from the same generation 8k device . Video and audio running seperate hdmi is still better, even for sound

Video : 8k support isn't compelling now.

Audio : DTS:X Pro isn't really a compelling argument for now either. 30.1 speeakers???

TLDR; to sum up...

Key features for the new 2020 Denon Receiver line-ups

Apart from the obvious upgrades of the hardware support from HDMI 2.0b to HDMI 2.1 which benefits the video segment - i.e. 8K support and higher frame rate support (and in the same vein targeting towards gamers like ALLM, VRR and QRT) - e.g. 8K60 and 4K120. What gets me excited are the little neat features like the Quick Media Select (QMS) and the Dual Audio Presets (DAP) which allows different speaker layout configs + changes to your crossovers and speaker trim levels for different "sweet spots" - e.g. single vs multiple seat.

Updates for X8500H

We also know that X8500H will receive a board upgrade to HDMI 2.1 (for a fee) to support all those neat features (of course there are more like eARC which sends out uncompressed Multi-Channel surround sound formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X from source/display/sound-bar) and which I have mentioned earlier...we also know DTS:X Pro update for X8500H will be coming later this holiday season (Dec) as a firmware update. DTS:X Pro can now support > 11.2 channels while previously only Trinnov high-end products are given the approval by the DTS and now Denon (soon Marantz) Receivers had also received this approval stamp to allow up to 30.2 speaker layout configurations (which for a lack of better word - insane in a home theater context for most average households).

I wonder how much will the upgrade fee be...It’s a HDMI board so I don’t expect it to be cheap. Having say that, I just learned that the nifty feature of Dual Audio Preset will not make it to the X8500HA after the board upgrade. The rest of the features mentioned in the Sound United podcast with various YouTube AV influencers will be added.

So the attractiveness of the board upgrade will depend on how fast the 8K make a dent in the AV community. If the adoption rate is slow due to the software (content) and the exorbitant price tag that one needs to pay for an upgrade of the display like a 8K Projector or OLED TV, it will ultimately affect the rate of adoption. Let’s also not forget that the world is undergoing a pretty bad economy downturn with many losing their jobs to the COVID-19 pandemics. Singapore’s economy is going to take years to recover to the pre-COVID-19 state. All of these factors coming in, sales will take a hit even the technology supports it.

Just food for thought...

+1, don’t really need 8k now + 30 channels? Nah...

Let me add 1 more point, there is also no improvement in room correction, vide Audyssey RC.

I have observed that room perfect and Dirac live have both come a Long way since, for 3 solid years we have not seen any improvement for RC on audyssey

Dirac Lice is already on v3.0 now. One should really ask, what is D&M doing with RC ?

Technically the marketing strategy is to retain the selling price in newer models, but adding “features” to make up for it

But Having the latest specs and features at this stage doesn’t really add value IMHO. It would be nice to see D&M ditching Audyssey for Dirac live . Then it’s probably worth the consideration

Nonetheless, the 3600,3700 at its price range, are probably worthy considerations if one is into HT and starting afresh from scratch

My fear is this drive for new video or new sound formats will cause the oppo BD players to be obselete in time to come  :'( :'(

The last Denon upgrade I had was for my AVP-A1HD processor HDMI board.  I think it costed me about $1,500 or lower.  Whatever it costs, it is far cheaper than you having to upgrade to the latest models.

It takes a lot of efforts to do upgrades.  Mounting holes need to be in the exact locations for both old models and new models.  Backplate sockets locations / allocations and re-labeling of connectors need to be carefully planned.  Company Product documentation will be complicated by introduction of modified models.  Firmware will also be complicated as now, it need to cater for original and upgraded units.  End of the day, the customers should be appreciative of such efforts.

The only manufacturers I know of that provide this very useful upgrade service to their customers are Denon, PS Audio and Ayre.

With higher licensing cost for Dirac Live, their AVR range may not appeal to the mass market anymore.

Well there’s a need and the want..

Most of us don’t Need it but hey we don’t need Atmos or more than one pair of cans either right ;)

So sometime someone will bite..

So denon allows modular upgrade of the HDMI board on the x8500? Does it allow for other models too?

This is never a doubt my friend. Technology gets obsolete. It’s lucky that one can derive the pleasure of using it for more than 5yrs. The time has come for 8K but it may take a while for 8K to take over the market. Unlike 4K upgrade over 1080p in which we can see a dramatic difference in PQ at close distance.

Is it 8K the same? Bigger screen at the same or even shorter distance.
