Thanks for the reply.  Do you have the issues I'm having on your processor (assuming it's a late model Denon of some kind)?  I'm not trying to do anything different to what I did on the 2200 and nothing else in my setup has changed.  To be blunt, I think the firmware on the 3800 is a cluster and Airplay is now an afterthought because Denon is plugging their own proprietary solution.  I haven't explored HeOS and it sounds like I could stream my library through it but if it comes to that, I'd probably prefer to stream it from my AppleTV.  Neither of those are my preferred option though.

In response to your questions:

I don't change the volume and it's supposed to be a feature in the Denon settings to "remember" the volume set.  What I see on the Apple Remote app (that I use to trigger playing from my iTunes library via my iPhone) is that when I open the app, the volume slider is all the way to the left (zero volume).  When I hit play, the 3800 wakes from sleep and when it completes the handshake, the volume jumps two thirds of the way to the right.  I don't have any control over it, I don't touch anything and I've not experienced anything like it previously.  This screams poor coding to me.

I don't use HeOS (well not intentionally anyway).  What I do is get music playing via Airplay (after jumping through the silly hoops I've mentioned above) and then use the Options on the Remote to select the Video source I want to use.

I do appreciate your reply.  It would be great if someone with the 3800 could confirm the same or different.

No I dont own a Denon but happy to troubleshoot, I think your Denon has the capabilities you want..... but I could be wrong!

AIRPLAY

When you send music via Airplay what source does the Denon switch to? If Heos get into the source settings and set the initial volume lower if possible.

VIDEO

Again assuming when you send music via Airplay it switches to the HEOS source, go into the HEOS source settings and choose the video source you want to show when listening to music. This way as soon as your machine switches to HEOS is will show the video source you want, i.e your Apple TV. Dont want to watch anything when listening to music, switch the TV off,

It definitely has the capabilities - it's the clunkiness that I'm disappointed in.  What I'm trying to find out is if it's just me because I'm not doing something right on the 3800 or is this as good as it gets.  It's definitiely not an improvement over my 9 year old 2200 though.

You are trying to use the 3800 like the 9 year old 2200 which clearly isn't working for you. From what you are saying the clunkiness comes from you doing things the old way and not doing things the way the 3800 facilitates them.

And you are saying (even though you've admitted to not owning a 3800) that bad firmware is acceptable (which is what I'm trying to find out from people that have a 3800).  If Denon didn't want to support airplay and video/sound from multiple sources they should have removed the options rather than poorly implement them.  It would have made my decision much easier because they are important to me.  If there's anyone else that actually owns a 3800, it would be great to get your input too.

I am?

Have you even tried the suggestions I provided you (which work across a number of brands) in an attempt to have the Denon do what you want?

Or better still maybe send you rant to Denon Customer service and they can help you.

Take your "processor" and whatever other appendages you like to skite about that are also not really that impressive and find someone else to troll.  Get a 3800 and come back to me when you're ready - otherwise, I'm not interested (in case you hadn't noticed).

If the mods care to take action, please delete everything from my original post forward.  I had hoped to get some feedback from people with the setup I have.  Not some know-it-all (that actually knows nothing at all)...

When I do get things going, everything's fine but if this is progress then give me my 9 year old receiever back!  I'm not sure how common my use cases are but for the features I use most of the time, it's not good.  It seems like Airplay is an afterthough now that HeOS is a thing (which didn't exist on the 2200).

its an unusual use case in what you do or trying to do I would say.. have not come across other folks using in this manner...

the apple tv though is a very good streamer and one of best on the market i have found 🙂

sorry cant be of more help as your use case is quite different 🙂

trying ot find someone else with a similar use case as in how you tend to use might be a challenge... maybe someone will come along .. i dont know really 🙂

I've got a x3800 in the showroom. I'll have a look tomorrow. So just confirming, you don't use the Apple Music app on your phone to connect Airplay, you use the Apple Remote app instead?

Never mind, I re read your post. You're streaming from your PC, not your phone, correct?
