Gino Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Same Spero D. I think im goiing more for the avp-a1hd I don't think im going to take the power amp as I have the Nad m25. Make sure you let me know if you ever do go down that path, we might be able to have more negotiating power if we buy in numbers
Spero D. Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Make sure you let me know if you ever do go down that path, we might be able to have more negotiating power if we buy in numbers I usually get a great deal on my Denon gear but if you can get better then I will be in it as well. OT: How is the D-Box system going. I remember you saying you weren't using a platform and then read on AVS that you are using a platform? Is it working for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles?
franin Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Make sure you let me know if you ever do go down that path, we might be able to have more negotiating power if we buy in numbers yeah that will be a good idea.I talked to audio products group and they told me they don't know if there going to stock many as it's not something the average Joe would buy.I think they would do it by orders.
cwt Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Integra's have always felt like the Hyundai of sound systems for me... but then again I know nothing about them (just a preconception from their advertising I think). Are they a reputable brand? Can their high-end stuff compare to Denon's, and the more eclectic like Halcro? I'm all for buying something that is as good in quality and performance, but costs a lot less! The Integra line is comparable with Denon;s in quality Johnson4; Cant compare the Integra sound but its clinical with low levels of negative feedback used.Integra's are superior to onkyo's [wolfsohn dac's ;higher rated capacitance;better quality components]; but the top totally seperate line is called Integra Research .As these were released many years ago ;they arent up to date any more. Halcro is very nice equipment [and the ssp80/100 does have hdmi audio processing] but there is a question if the upscaling is as good as the reon in the 905[dtc9.8?] or the realta in the denon pre/pro.Dont know if the ssp100 has the very good audessey room correction in the denon or probably integra ?
Johnson4 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks CWT -- good to know that. Well, if we do start getting together a list of buyers for the AVP-A1HD, count me in. Be interesting to see what sort of discount we can get...

Johnson4 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I put in a word with Carlton Audio Visual to see if they might like to get in on the mass-order action. I'm guessing that even a 20% discount on RRP will still give them a hefty profit on 7 of these beauties. There's a question: anyone know what sort of markup these (or other hi-fi items) actually have?

I'm guessing that even a 20% discount on RRP will still give them a hefty profit on 7 of these beauties. There's a question: anyone know what sort of markup these (or other hi-fi items) actually have? Pardon me, but 20% is not NEARLY enough since the GB is doing all the organising, this is basically a 'gimme' for any distributor If Denon won't bring them here officially then a distributer can buy them in at international pricing and put a reasonable profit on for themselves to make it worthwhile, that way we'd simply be paying a similar price to the US with $Au conversion + a little. Much better deal for all of us and a volume sale to the right distributor where there is no sale otherwise! Offering a group buy at 20%under $12,499 RRP is still paying far too much for each unit! What we can do is say: "there are 10 buyers with 10% deposit straight up, so long as the price is same as US + Conversion and handling charges. This should ensure profitability for the distributor and a fair price to the GB members Don't forget, the GB is doing all the work up to the point to where the distributor orders the units! There are no advertising charges, stock holding charges etc to build into the pricing. Just my 2c, but to offer to buy 7-10 units at 20% discount on RRP is a mistake at this stage...better to ask what they are prepared to do it for first. Cheers, Curious
fawlty99 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Suggestion - put the offer out to tender to a number of potential suppliers. BTW - out of my price range without a 75% discount so count me out.
norpus Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Yes 20% doesn't cut it for me esp when the rrp is so high. What about a group buy out of HK (where the power supply is already 240V, just a plug change)? We should be able to get a similar or better price than US even with freight. Only prob would be warranty - but with 7 or so of us, there could be significant pressure brought to bear for warranty fix. Or price japan group buy - as they do denons (but 110V so maybe not)
franin Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 They wont hit here until November,December by what the Denon agent in perth is saying

(warranty is a minor yet possible) Let's give the locals an opportunity to meet our requirements and if they can't/won't then HK here we come What say you all? Curious

Spero D. Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 They wont hit here until November,December by what the Denon agent in perth is saying Franin not to dispute what you have been told but APA have it in their system as October which I hope is correct so I can get it sooner rather than later

Is it working for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles? D-Box is awesome.. love it! I actually postpone watching movies until I get the motion codes for them. re: the platform, its the platform configuration actuators, but because its used beneath a single 2 seater, I've just stuck them under each corner, so there's really no difference if there was technically a platform there or not if you follow, except perhaps that it can handle 2400lbs and I'm only loading it with a fraction of that. In the dedicated room it will be used to carry 4-6 chairs. It is only working synced with Bluray titles. With HD-DVD, I've got to manually sync them myself.

Johnson4 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I just pulled that 20% out of the air... no idea what sort of price we could be aiming at. All things considered, buying from Hong Kong is such an enormous saving that it's a risk most of us would probably take. (If it needed repairing, does the warranty still apply in Australia? or no?) Certainly, I'd put down a deposit too, for the right price through a reputable seller.
Curious Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 All for one and.....lets go have a tankard or three Cheers (drinks merrily from a freshly opened Cascade First Harvest) a toast in your good name Sir Norpus Cheers, Curious

I was in Sydney yesterday on business and made the decision after another demo that I am putting a 4 chair de-box system into my theatre later this year. Its just cool. Gino.. I might need you to replace some fillings though.. I think I shook one loose yesterday listening to U-571 'depth charged' on the D-Box chairs with them going full pelt.
