Been thinking the same thing Scotto , wasn't aware that Onkyo were ever particularly higher regarded in the basic sound quality stakes, i.e. not bad but nothing particularly special either?

Gordon

It's really surprising how much interest there is in that GB thread. Sight unseen but good reviews overseas.

Having a Denon already, I think I'm inclined to wait.

Some specs on the processor.Apparentley they should be available summer there.

Those digital bnc's look interesting FRANIN; I wonder If their the same bandwidth as normal co-ax's ?? May match an upcoming HD player  Noticed the features said dvd audio through hdmi.Considering hdmi 1.3 can take sacd's dsd - I think those with firewire not denon link are officially stuffed -dying standard in any case I spose.

Specs are up-

Finally a look at and details on (albeit in Japanese) on the 5308 or as it will be known here the AVC-A1HD with its 6 HDMI inputs and HQV processing. It is a toss up between this unit (which I would use as a Preamp) and the Preamp AVP-A1HD.

A shame both the AVC-A1HD and Preamp AVP-A1HD are the same size-

W434×H217×D500mm (wireless rod antenna not to be included,)

W434×H279×D509mm (the wireless rod antenna it includes)

We definetly do get hammered on price here in Australia

- Preamp AVP-A1HD 735000Yen = $7024 (Australian RRP- $12,499)

- Amplifier 735000 Yen = $7024

- AVC-A1HD (AVR-5308CI) 598000Yen = $5720

Makes importing seem attractive.

Makes you think twice before outlaying the cash. But then again I guess when it hits our shores, it's a whole diffrent scenario.

That price is a whole lot more attractive. Should be getting a nice little tax return to cover it plus some other goodies :)

Actually Spero D. The AVC-A1HD is actually quite cheap being the replacement of the A1XVA being $5720.Paid $15,000 for A1XVA, which included the upgrade, thats why im now becoming more careful in what I buy.

I don't know if it's true or not, i was getting my **** organised in regards of upgrading my Denon Avc-a1xva to the Denon AVP-A1HD and was told that in 4-6 weeks they would be due out. This from a retailer apparantely there all going to view it in Sydney within the next few weeks.Again I don't know if it's true, but if it is.. OH Man! it's going to be good!

I'd be very interested in this upgrade for my A1XVA also. I was unaware of it and I can't find any news of yet myself. If you do get more info please update me. Otherwise, I have a mind to possibly trade mine on the preamp version and then swap out with my increasingly out of date, specs-wise Meridian processor and do something different for my projector setup that the Denon is in.

Off-topic, but if you are thinking about offloading the G68, please drop me a PM.

All has to do with how I handle a replacement scenario. Can't make a move before then really, or my day to day HT system is stranded effectively.

Just an update here, More pictures, information and videos have been posted on the AVC-A1HD (non Preamp version) here-

http://www.avbuzz.com/audio-video/200707/d...-a1hd/index.htm

Though strangely they are showing the US (AVR-5308CI) back to it.

BTW with the strong dollar the Yen-Aussie$ conversion is now even more cheaper by around $100 below those listed above.

Something tells me the 5308ci and the avc-a1hd are one and the same spero :) Bit like the US 5805 was the equivalent of Franins A1XVA.Could be wrong of course . ;)

They are one in the same. Our unit however is sans onboard tuner and satellite radio connections.

With the way digital radio is here - no great loss.

Some more info on the 4308-

http://www.listenup.com/Content/Partner_St...on/Talmadge.php

I really like the sound of the new 2 way 7000 remote-

Must have item for me. Especially with a Zone 2 setup.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but apparently the new Denon 08 series can be controlled via the WiFi/Ethernet interface, so depending on your home network setup, you could use an 802.11b/g enabled mobile phone or PDA web browser to control the amp remotely (and get the two way feedback through the web page).

Of course, the 7000 will likely allow you to control other devices too, but if most of your Zone 2 stuff is streaming of network audio, then amp control is all you need. :)

Hmmm my 2807 is suddenly looking very aged :(

I agree that the Denon AVR2807 is looking a little aged. I am still happy with mine, but a new receiver capable of decoding the new Dolby and DTS formats is not too far away.
