Waterzoo Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Read from another thread that you are now a happy user of then C-200 and must say that you have made a right decision to buy Popcorn instead of HDX-BD1.

Ya..Forget about HDX. I own both HDX1000 as well as C200. Really pissed off with HDX support and respond to problem. Now they develop their own software in BD1 without adopting syabas, this will make people more worry.

KelvinMark Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 HDX-BD1 should have a better respone now as they are creating their own firmware, so it easiler to rewrite it at the own speed, previously they are using a third party firmware, of coz the respone is slow.
Bonn Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Yeah. The bottleneck last time was created by Sigma. Not by HDX. This applies to PCH too. But I guess everyone hate to keep waiting for something to happen and so you get the vendor doing the programming themselves. That should really make the device better since updates will be more prompt and issues can be quickly addressed and not going through another party.
bkling Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 In fact if they use Syabas firmware + their form factor design is still alright as finally those technical issues will be resolved. Personally, I am doubtful on their commitment to users and buyer if they take on their own development on the software portion. Of course, thing may change and hopefully they may also improve. However, i will never try my luck with them again based on what I had experienced with them previously.
Bonn Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 MPC side seems like they are getting pretty good support though. Will see how it goes. I do look forward to the local launch of this product.
Bonn Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The MO side says earliest this friday. But another vendor stated it will only come somewhere end Feb or early March.

IMO, it is still too early to gauge whether HDX can be successful in churning out firmware to resolve issues as it is still unknown how knowledgeable are the development team. However based on history, HDX post-sales support is like those thorns in a stalk of rose. This is one grey area which needs to improve. As of this date, I will bet my dollars on the Popcorn C-200 or A-200 rather than having a false economy by procuring another less expensive equivalent product which may or may not open up a can of worms. If die die must buy due to brand loyalty then wait for a few months to let the dust settle down first unless you are prepare to be one of the many free beta testers for HDX.
landis Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 i had a few hdx1000s previously. the box design was esthetically appealing and it worked well for basic playback functions. unfortunately due to somewhat lethargic firmware releases and no presence in most forums, i sold off all my boxes. i shudder at the thought of buying another hdx product ;D

Guest omshks Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Hi there, I had the C200 but returned it after 1 week cos it does not decode DTS HD MA and Dolby True HD from my files that has them. Syabas has acknowledged this issue on the 8643 chipset. I have however audition the HDX BD1 at a shop in sim lim. It is running on the 8642 chipset and it does everything the C200 does but better still, it can decode or pass thru all the HD audio from my files. It also plays blu ray and ripped blu ray files with full BD navigation. I think i will be buying the BD1 next.
