I am considering buying one of these IKEA POANG chair. When I sit on one of these my ear is at the right hight (38") at the tweeter level.

However I am bit concerned about the headrest part which might reflect the waves and due the that the imaging might be bit muddied.

Am I too concerned? Should I just get one of these anyways? I really like the chair though.

I'm using one myself... So far so good.. Don't think the headrest is in the way for me, but YMMV... It's not a fancy chair, but it's lightweight/mobile, comfortable to sit in, easy to get up from, the right height (for me) and most importantly cheap...

I have a couple of those chairs (owned them for about 8 years). They're pretty decent chairs for the money (don't forget the foot rest!). Sound-wise, they're just fine. I have a leather one and a cloth covered one. The cloth one is the best for audio.

Great. I think I am going to Ho for

It then. I like it a lot and will take ZB advice and got for a cloth cushion.

Had a pair of these as my main chairs for 10+ yrs, no issues with reflections at all. Go for it, them are comfortable and long wearing.

I don't mind the look of the chair but the only problem is that you would have to go to Ikea to buy it. I went to Ikea once and vowed never to do so again.

Can people order Ikea stuff online?

Your vow to never go to IKEA again. Is it something to do with a dislike of mazes? Do you feel uncomfortable being sort of herded about in a particular direction without any sense of where you are going? That is the feeling I get at IKEA but I look for shortcuts through the maze!:)

Yes indeed.:)

It just felt like a herd of "sheeple" being herded into following the arrows, without actually ever being able to examine anything in detail

same here, had a black leather one with the matching foot stool and was my main listening chair when had a listening room for 10+ years as well. a lovely very comfortable chair. and had no issue with it either. my wife hates black and leather, so had to go unfortunately. much to my dads delight who was most pleased to grab it ! :)

A chair that rocks is not a good choice for a listening chair.

I suppose it might give the brain a good work out trying to process spatial information.

There is a reason people and animals stop moving when they are trying to listen more intensely.

You are right about that, however the standard POANG chair doesn't rock, although when you sit down it might go down a little. However there is a version that facilitates rocking as well, and that would be a bad choice for listening as you suggest.

If you have any budding audiophiles in training, don't forget to get the little guy/gal a little Poang too... :)

Too bad it only comes in one colour... :)

It sounds like something you would order in a Chinese food market.

Good to see lot of positive endorsements for IKEA POANG :)

Me too. I reckon there are people wandering around IKEA stores who haven't seen daylight for years.

Can't stand their store dynamics. I've been in an IKEA store twice, and that's more than enough for me.

True. Go first thing in the morning when they open. Mostly empty and easy to cheat on the directions ;-)

It might not rock but it will bounce up and down unless you remain perfectly still.

Laminated chairs are designed to do this.

Plus it will sag down more as you age and put on weight [not to mention shrink] and the timber loses its spring. So you will have to keep chopping the bottom off your speakers to keep the tweeter at the same height.

I've seen a display in one of their stores where it is being tested under pressure tens of thousands of times - seemed to fair pretty well.

DOnt forget the DIY mods for the serious audiophool.

Heres my Ikea Pong Audiophpbia version. Note the cutaway on the headrest that supports the head in the perfect listening postion while elimnating the worrysome reflections as well as the super seat mod for the times the shear dynamics of ones system leads to one pizzing themselves.

You must have really long arms to cover up those wooden arm rests
