It might not rock but it will bounce up and down unless you remain perfectly still.

Laminated chairs are designed to do this.

Plus it will sag down more as you age and put on weight [not to mention shrink] and the timber loses its spring. So you will have to keep chopping the bottom off your speakers to keep the tweeter at the same height.

Or simply put a cushion under your butt to boost up the height????? At $179 it's more likey to be a victim of fashion change long before it reaches its use by date and is eligible for verge collection status.

If I ever get to sit perfectly still whilst listening to music rigor mortis would have had to have set in. In which case some other poor sod would be listening to my gear. :)

Cheers,

Alan R.

Your vow to never go to IKEA again. Is it something to do with a dislike of mazes?

my tip for ikea is to enter through the exit and avoid the maze. Most of the furniture is in the easy to navigate storage shelves just before the checkout.

The Poang is a nice cheap chair but for the same money you could probably pick up a nice Tessa chair 2nd hand. Very similar style.

I loved the poang for critical listening until lower back damage made these agonising to sit in. So if anyone wants to make offers on a poang (the Dala Natural fabric poangs (I have 2), just PM me. Sadly I'm in Sydney. The Poang may be cheap (as chairs go - they're a bit pricier than most of us remember in some configurations). The rocking chairs are awesome also - I suggest one of each, so (tpartner can rock while you listen to rock'n'roll. I'd be looking for about $120 - they're built and in as new condition, plus a little cat fur. The Tessa chair is also a good recommendation - but the poangs last years and seem to be outside normal fashion changes. When they're retro, they'll still be cool. Unusual for a piece this cheap, they kind of have Herman Miller's 'Aeron' status, but as comfy chairs.

I have a black leather one with footstool for my 'listening' chair. Very comfy. Using it about 5 years and have been happy with the choice.

If you are seriously concerned about the audiofool aspects of Poang, I found squashballs cut in half underneath helped with reducing microvibrations and aided imaging. A couple of bass traps set just behind on each side made minimal difference, but might be worth a try depending on your room. Mounting the thing on a slate bed (with proper damping of course) was a thought...but I didn't try it yet.
