I have 2 Accuphase units in my main system, a DC37 DAC and the A70 Power Amp.  I have been a huge fan of Class A Amplification since i owned a pair of C51 and P51 UK Sugden amps many moons ago.  The clarity and projection (openness) of Class A I find fantastic. 

 

I started my Accuphase journey trying to find Amps that could seamlessly drive my Dynaudio C2 Plats., in way it was a mistake to buy them as they forced me on a journey to upgrade quite a few times.  Today they still exist in my household living on a 3rd system in my Dining/kitchen area driven by a Bryston 4bsst which is also an amazing amp that seemingly can drive any speaker effortlessly and meanwhile the Dynaudio's luv' all that space, in my experience they need plenty of air around and in font of them, my music room I think was just too restrictive for them.  Still they forced many changes for the better including treating the room with bass traps and wall mounted sound absorption panels.

 

I had seen an ad for a Class A70 Accuphase amp on Stereonet and wondered about it, no driving need as the Bryston was performing well, I saw it was in Sydney so accessible, i started to read the forums and reviews.  Intrigued it sat at the back of my mind, was still quite expensive, then a few weeks later a price drop and I thought jeez, just within my upper budget so I should check it out.  Contacted the seller and raised my concerns about it having enough power to truly drive my Dynaudios', so he offered to bring it around and try.  Excellent .. such a great seller.  So duly the seller and amp arrived, and was swapped in, its no light weight amp the A70 .. a really serious bit of kit.  So the Bryston was swapped out and the listening began.  All the hallmarks of Class A lifted the system to the next level for listening, and did it have enough power to drive difficult speakers ? well on 4 ohm (or less) the power output is really understated on the A70, cracks well over 200w.  So plenty of reserve so it passed all tests with flying colors, the answer was clear, an instant luv' affair and she stayed.  Today the Ayon Auris Preamp has been replaced by a Supratek Cabernet DHT and the Dynadio's by a delightful pair of Harbeth 40.2, and it is truly a superb stereo to my ears at all volume levels, in fact much of my listening is now at quite low Watts.  The Supratek DHT allows me to tube roll (I use 2a3's and 45's) and subtly change the sound, a flexible and tunable pre amp that matches brilliantly with the A70.

 

A couple of years ago i decided to upgrade the PC's feeding digital files into my Stereo systems (I have a few), and rapidly I went thru quite a few units, upgrading each time until I thought i had reached the end of the road with a new Geisler Grob DAC, which was beyond all the others I had, ARCAM, Cayan and a few more.   So for a year i was quite content. The arrival of the Accuphase A70 had now truly open my eyes to the quality of Accuphase components and i had just acquired the Supratek DHT preamp.  Now this seller had a full suite of older Accuphase gear and was upgrading to dizzy heights (including Accuphase) well beyond my meagre budgets.  The Supratek had been driving an older pair of Accuphase Power amps so I had a number of informative discussion with him.  He believed the Supratek was superior to the Accuphase Pre's that he had (answered one of my questions about Accuphase Pre's) and mentioned he was also pgrading and selling his Accuphase DC37.  It duly arrived not long after the Supratek, instantly it was another level above my other DACS, in my setup it doesn't support my Marantz SA 11s1 player's SACD's (only CD's)  as a Transport but then again my Marantz is very musical and inputs directly onto the Supratek Pre. I use my old Akai reference CD73 as a Transport for CD's into the DC37.  Sure there is room to get a decent Transport but I mainly listen to digital from my Lumin player nowadays.

 

Definitely an Accuphase fan.

hi all, I have a question (embarrassing at that). I've got an E-350 that I bought locally about 10 years ago. The dealer no longer exists. I've just come to realise that the unit did not come with an Aust plug end cable. Instead I have the plug per photo, and have been using a small travel adapter to get it plugged in.

 

So I tried just grabbing a generic cable to swap it out and at least get rid of the need for an adapter (reduce connections etc), except that the generic IEC end didn't seem to want to go into the amp. I was reaching over the back and not ideal etc, but not going easily even tho visually the ends looked the same.

What power cable(s) should I be considering?
(hope there's nothing weird going on in terms of Accuphase standard, tried some searching and nothing obvious popping up). Any help appreciated, even if it arrives with a dose of chastising!

A picture of the other end would help.  Is there a cutout or other small change.

Hi @Steam thanks for the followup. Since posting the above, I started to think that the issue with the amp end plug didn't make proper sense. The existing cable end just looks like a typical IEC13.........

 

So I scrounged another generic cable off a computer monitor and tried that. It fits fine (apologies I should have pursued this sooner - rather than go off data of N=1). This alternate cable has three prong plug so presumably things are now grounded too.

 

Um, which means that all I'm left with is, do I get a 'better' power cable? And what constitutes a better cable? etc. Whoa, I may not know too much but I know enough to realise that topic is like touching the third rail!! 

 

At least in the meantime I'm now plugged direct to amp with one less electrical connection point.

I'm looking at buying at E-650 integrated to match my Tannoy Arden Legacys but it looks like the E-650 is out of stock everywhere - has it been discontinued? The E-800 looks nice but is looking like too much of a jump for me price wise.

Maybe a burner phone.

 

Edit: a burner phone is a pre paid phone/sim card paid for with cash so not even a paper trail exists, discarded after use.

Or maybe the stolen ID used to create the ebay account was also used when purchasing the phone.

The ebay account was created Aug 17, 2022, the UK Gumtree listing precedes this.

hi! I bought a second hand DP-430 for a very reasonable price.

I did not expect much but wow... It sounds so good that I am actually even using it as DAC as well. (Btw, unlike what I have read in previous posts, DP-430 is actually a MDS DAC).

I have a Lindemann Musicbook Source and a Matrix X-SABRE, and believe me, DP-430 DAC is killing both of them. For a discontinued product of 2017 and for that level of price, I am just wow!

 

I have also bought a E-800 in Feb, the shop told me it will arrive in March. I really, really did not want to wait that long. I felt it is so scandalous that it took me a lot of strengh to go through this purchase. (it was early Feb, delivery end of March). Two month waiting is more than i can take, but i ordered it anyway.

As i was going crazy for the wait being so damn long, i decided to contact the dealer again and push them to find a way to deliver earlier.

They told me they can't and that actually, it is postponed to April now.

 

Haha, i wish i did not contact them, it made it worst! XD

I just can wait even i hate it ^^

ok, cool. i ordered the E-800 with AD-50. I did not take the DAC-60 because all reviews were saying it is not performing great. Instead i bought a second hand DP-430 that i also use as DAC. It is supposed to be far superior to DAC-60 option.

 

My dealer updated me for a delivery around 10th APR. Gona be the longest 3 weeks of my life^^

I recently purchased a Accuphase P400 Power Amp in excellent working condition and sounds great but as it's 43 years old I am planning on getting it refurbed.

Any recommendations would be welcome. Looking for someone in Melbourne East or Sth East. Who would be familer with Accuphase Amps.
