alvin1118 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 The only issue now is how to persuade my wife on this spending :) Haha
alvin1118 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Haha, or ask her to spend equally on luxury bag to balance up :) better I think
wizardofoz Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 she will benefit far more from the gear as she I am sure will watch and listen...but you will never use her bag :P
Guest francishuang Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 not to mention carrying it for her as well... she will benefit far more from the gear as she I am sure will watch and listen...but you will never use her bag :P
mars73 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 You won't regret it. The Ice power is closed to my W4S, only lacking slightly in refinement and headroom. Otherwise, IMO, for those seeking HT and Stereo, this AVR shud be on top of your buying list...... :) Bro, Did u have to pay excess baggage for this item? Still worth it if I have to pay for excess baggage for it? I think I'm quite likely to exceed the quota if I lug it back...
francis wu Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 Just check it in (21.5 kg with the carton) and labelled it fragile. Hand carry your own luggage and you will be fine.... :) Never paid for over weight stuff before so don't know the cost... ???

I think I'm quite likely to exceed the quota if I lug it back... if you need to lug something back from overseas. Don't travel budget airline coz the excess baggage will cost more than your flight ticket.
Guest durianlover88 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Heard Pioneer LX84 coming out this month or next. Bros, you might want to just wait a little while more...
mars73 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Heard Pioneer LX84 coming out this month or next. Bros, you might want to just wait a little while more... Hmm, but I'm going HK end of the month. Might not be in time... Any rumours on what's new in the 84 from the 83?
HT102 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Hmm, but I'm going HK end of the month. Might not be in time... Any rumours on what's new in the 84 from the 83? It will be known as SC-LX85. I noticed that several sites that used to have the info had taken them down. Luckily there is still one.. Garydrums Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Just checked the pricing in Hkg at US$1,650. Shops in Adelphi selling for 3.5K.... :P Wow, the difference is huge... ??? ::) i believe 3.5K does come with a free LX53 BR player. I think they are also selling "export model" which doesnt come with warranty. you might want to consider that. At least you can get to test it out before bringing it home.
arsene Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Hi Francis. I am thinking of getting the LX83 or the LX85 when I go to HK in 2 months' time. Just wanted to know whether you need to turn on the AVR when it is in HT Bypass mode or can the AVR be in a standby mode? Thank you for your reply in anticipation.
janedoe Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Lugged a LX83 back from HK earlier this week. Went shopping around and the best price I found is 11.5k HKD (1.9k sgd) for the parallel import/ gray market set and 14k hkd for the local HK set. Singapore Pioneer shop quoted me 4k sgd.. Gosh...
francis wu Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Hard work pays dividend. You got a slightly better price than me. Now enjoy...haha Hi Francis. Just wanted to know whether you need to turn on the AVR when it is in HT Bypass mode or can the AVR be in a standby mode? Thank you for your reply in anticipation. Sorry Arsene, did not see your post until now. I have not tried it yet as I am still using the 83 on my stereo set up, running in the ICE power amps, although, generally, you need to turn on the AVR to make the circuit active. Perhaps Bro Centrinoduo can experiment and see.
dfgjkl Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Is this hefty markup only for pioneer products ? how about denon , marantz cd player , av amp , are they also very much cheaper in HK ? you guys make some much noise here . will the local pioneer agent complain and force the HK pioneer agent sell at higher price ?

Sigh..

This is a very good question. Generally, except for Pioneer, I find that the others have pricing close to SG's, so, not worth the time and effort to get these. I am not in the retail business so I can't answer that although I think it would be difficult for SG Pioneer to stop SG HK from setting their own area pricing. In any case, the sets were bought from parallel importers.
DizzyD1624705734 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 When I was in HK 2009 I bought Denon 4310 from KEC and it was cheaper than HK even I take into account shipment from SG to HK.
jimi1624705950 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 no chance to play with my set till renovations are completed... Sigh.. Bring over to my place meantime, I'll run it in and test for ya ;)
janedoe Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Bring over to my place meantime, I'll run it in and test for ya ;) sure! Juz drop me a pm :)

Doggie Howser Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 LX85 no longer using ICE IIRC. They switched to a FET module. I heard it's used in their lower end models.

So you think the LX85 won't sound as good? Don't think I've heard a FET amp before. Bring over to my place meantime, I'll run it in and test for ya ;) Centrinoduo brought his amp over to my place the other night. Its a very nice AVR with a clear interface, impressive remote, and easy to setup. My labels on my speaker cables had fallen off and it was able to detect which ones where out of phase. Also demo'ed the battery pop test as CDuo hadn't setup a HT before. The sound was impressive (probably would have been even better if I'd remembered to turn on the sub ::) ) and I fancy that it was better for stereo than my Denon 3310, though the tone was a little cooler. I was more interested in the difference with music as I find that is particularly weak for the Denon to my ears. We didn't play too loud as it was near midnight and I didn't want to wake the kids but the surround effects were pretty good via the standard auto setup- I think the Denon is better for this though we didn't really test it out. Best of all is that after a few hours of play the AVR was barely even tepid hot!! Although not for hifi, class D definitely has a place in HT for me. CDuo, do invite me round to your place after your reno is done. At least you know that the Pioneer works well :D
francis wu Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Looks like there are only 2 LX83 owners in this forum!...... :). A pity as this really is a great machine. Good to look at, easy on the pocket and lastly great HT and stereo sound presentation.... :D
