Art Vandelay Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I run a pair of Duntech Viscounts, now 19 years old. Continual enjoyment, and capable of dealing with the improvements as my ear has advanced the amplification cause.(Currently Vincent V-60) My mate runs a pair of Duntech Barons. Again, enormously enjoyable. Cannot vouch for the current Duntech line. Two thoughts- performance for dollar at any given price point, Aussie wins hands down. So why not support the local industry, our country, and your ears. - If you cannot find something in the ranges from Whatmough, VAF, Krix I would be very surprised. happy shopping. dingo. + Equinox.
planet10 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Cept there aren't any Ozzies making horns or single driver speakers as far as I know. See post #10 dave
DoggieHowser Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Bill. Will be in town till end of April. Any idea if the ML2s would be done then? Was hoping it'd be ready by then. My friend should be getting the Plinius SA Reference soon so should make for an interesting Kiwi-Aussie pairing
Guest yamaha_man Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Can I ask where you heard them? There are only two in existence right now - I have one and there is another on the Gold Coast. Mine (that now belongs to my friend) is in Canberra right now and I had them over at another place for a while where people could here them and at that venue they were less than impressive for some reason. They are now at my friends place in Canberra to be set up as rears but because of what was heard at the other venue we will be checking them out as mains. Quite a few have heard them while they were up in Queensland, and last I heard at least 6 pairs were ordered - I know because my new pair is one of them - since my friend got my old ones - and because of that my pair is delayed a bit in being built. Thanks Bill Read the last line of my post Bill.

Since you and I ordered them together they should be done about the same time. Thanks Bill
b.d Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Cheers Dave and Dritz, something to look into when I get home.
bhobba Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) Read the last line of my post Bill. Scratching my head about that - the post I referenced only had one line and I posted it all. I did address a clarifying post you did a bit later that you may not have seen. Thanks Bill Edited April 4, 2012 by bhobba
bhobba Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Ah, cheers. The ML2 is the one in the range that interests me the most. If you or anyone wants to drive to Canberra you can hear them. Thanks Bill
Guest yamaha_man Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks for clarifying that - I am pretty sure it was ML1's. There is no need to be sorry - I think your view is 100% valid - in fact I love seeing posts from people that don't like them that much since it allows everyone to get balanced view. Also you might like to hear the ML2's since the other guy that has a pair is in love with them and didn't much like the ML1's. He did a long post about it which you may be able to dig up. Thanks Bill There would have to be a dramatic increase in performance for me to rate them Bill. For the price, far from my cup of tea, give me a pair of Yamaha NS-1000's any day.

Gee Emm Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 http://tcloudspeaker...Special4_As.JPG Hand crafted Aussie loudspeakers. Very nice looking speaker Never heard of them prior to this Graham
Art Vandelay Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 If you or anyone wants to drive to Canberra you can hear them. Thanks Bill I might be driving through Canberra this long weekend (on my way to the Snowy's) If it's possible I would be very keen to have a quick listen. Cheers, Art

Yes you can - drop me a line to arrange a time. At the moment they are packed up and with my gummy knees I cant really set them up so I may need a bit of a hand in that department. You can compare them to the ML3's they will be next to. Thanks Bill
andreasmaaan Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Also thought the Aaron room, although totally understated and mostly over looked was solid too. I thought the Aarons lacked a bit of mid-treble refinement but the mid-bass out of those dual 6" woofers was so fast, powerful and right that I spent more time in that room than in many of the others.
Jventer Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 gray I like your post. I like Krix, VAF, Osborn and Aaron, but then I like international brands too. I do concentrate on Aussie manufacturers though. I think the quality is there and despite the high A$ they are competitive. I agree with the other posts in that it is due to their marketing methods and controls of overheads they remain competitive. After the Melbourne show I bought Osborn speakers. My first choice will always be Aussie makers. I feel good in supporting them, I can visit them, talk to them and get the speakers in my colour etc etc. Same applies for amps and other stuff.. I am not naive to say there are not good international brands and that taste differs. I also don't know how our guys compete in the international front. Curveball: As far as I know most of the Aussie guys use drivers and other equipment from international suppliers, so it is not really all home grown.
Willco Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 If your preference for speakers run towards Sonus Fabers, I doubt you'd like Lenehans. Hmmm --Interestingly enough in a posting on a similar thread Mike L expressed his admiration for the Guarneri Homage. Willco
DoggieHowser Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I have always heard their Homage floorstanders partnered with Audio Research gear and they definitely don't have the same dynamics and speed I'd associate with Lenehans. They do present a very grand scale to the music. My friends and I preferred the ARC gear partnered to Wilson speakers in the same showroom.
Willco Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Yoh Doggie, I tend to agree on the later floorstanders-can't say I'm a fan either--however the early Standmount Homages I've found a different kettle of fish--Yes not heard Mikes ML's but will try to get down to Brissy one day for an Audition. With you on the Wilson/ARC combos -always seem to have good synergy--I've owned that combo- Watt/Pup/Witts/etc including Slamms--and tried Pass/Krell/Jadis the finest I found was the Big Cellos--long deceased unfortunately. God Listening, Willco
Dr X Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 For the price, far from my cup of tea, give me a pair of Yamaha NS-1000's any day. Subjectively I think these speakers are a bit overrated because they lack dynamic range (sparkle). To me they also don't sound as transparent as speakers of today although at the time of making they might have been better than most as is/was their reputation. Having heard Bear's Gales and his NS-1000's I'd take the Gales anyday.

Come to my place and I believe you will rethink what you have just said.
Dr X Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) Don't get me wrong, from what I've heard of them the Yamaha NS-1000s aren't a bad speaker at all, easy to listen to. They just didn't present any WOW-Excitement factor for me. In some ways I think they're better than the Gales. To me they sound like they have an overall flatter frequency response. To me the Gales are a more dynamic speaker, particularly producing bass frequencies. Edited April 5, 2012 by Dr X
Guest yamaha_man Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Well at my place in current setup position they give my Sasha's a run for the money and are only a 20th of the price.
Drizt Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I liked Bear's yammy's and Gales a lot. The Gales were pretty boomy in that room / config. The Gales were a more relaxed speaker but I got the feeling the Yammys were far more accurate / neutral. But.... that was just my seat of the pants impression. Room / listening position (room interaction) has a lot to do with what we hear, which goes a long way to answering why many people report back different opinions.
Guest yamaha_man Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Well i once thought the 1000's lacked image, depth and soundstage, I am now eating my thoughts. Over n out on the 1000's, back to Aussie speakers. Cheers.

Pity you don't use a bloody speaker made in Oz! Cheers.
