Drexter Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 7000 is too rich for me.. I guess I will move my Kuro over.. Besides the newer sets have not shown to be vastly superior... And I won't get the vt20 even if it is value. That's just wrong... Buying something lesser than the Kuro and still paying so much.. Just still a little closer :( What's Kuro anyway?
petetherock Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 What's Kuro anyway? ? Pioneer Kuro .
petetherock Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Ok, had a chance to go to the only place which seems to have the bigger TVs. I guess it was logical to place them in the "high end" part of their chain. 65" Panny was going for $6300 Nett, if you return their TV (which is now a free soundbar anyway) and include the $200 BD vouchers (you get $100 per purchase above $3000). Two pair of 3D glasses, which were heavier and less comfortable than the Samsung. The 64" Samsung can be had for $5999, which includes a BR player, 2 discs inside and 2 pairs of the cheapest 3D glasses. If you opt for the Premium glasses you can swop away the BR player and the cheapo glasses. These are Blutooth and not IR unlike the Panny. If you spend another buck, you will also get back $200 in BD vouchers, which Cannot be used to offset this purchase - only on the next purchase. There is no Galaxy included as a remote, unlike the equivalent 8000 series LED TVs. Both include 3 years warranty onsite, but only the Samsung is a total cover which includes the glass and dead pixels over the three years. Stands and wall installation plus delivery are included of course. The Panny is "kinda" made in Japan, and you get winks rather than real nods when you press the chap as to the origin of the components. The Samsung is made in Korea. Both are extremely heavy, but the Samsung is light and also thinner. Right now the Samsung is out of stock anyway, to be refreshed in a week or two.
francis wu Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Well, I m not sure whether the Samsung is really made in Korea. The last time I checked in Shenzhen, all the shops told me made in their beloved country!!... ;D

petetherock Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 I will wait for th samsung 75 to take a look 1st. 65 is no kick... The sales guy said Samsung may stop selling plasma...
InnocentBlood Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 3-4 yrs ago a Sharp 65" LCD costs abt $20k, saw a Samsung 64"D8000 plasma going for $65xx today, price has certainly dropped a fair bit. However, the marked price difference between here and the US market remains the same. 46" seems to be the new norm now. Waiting for the 70-75" to become available at an accessible price. That is the ideal size for me after seeing a Sony SXRD 70" some years back. Is the 70" Sony SXRD still being made? :)
badbad2000 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 anyone buy in Amazon before? and use a step down transformer. Their price for 60" and above is so much cheaper compare to Singapore.
XTRProf Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 anyone buy in Amazon before? and use a step down transformer. Their price for 60" and above is so much cheaper compare to Singapore. Err, what about when there is a need for servicing?

Voltage, no PAL, warranty, breakage etc are all mentioned there. Or read here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2070204&highlight=shipping
Avonez Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Is the 70" Sony SXRD still being made? :) IIRC, read somewhere that Sony SXRD namesake may make a comeback with 3D. Rear projector technology was one way of getting large screen Full HD at a lower price then. Almost got one if the salesman hasn't discouraged it was going OOP.

Panasonic plasma or anything above 50" really a big different the price compare US and local store. But US set not support pal and step down transformer required, including no warranty support. At the end, i bought a Samsung 7 series at local store.
drazic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Seems like Pana VT vs ST differs in the THX feature on the VT. and of coz, the VT is a single glass covering the sides.... VT comes in 65, ST comes in 55....
petetherock Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 Thanks bro OC for finding out... Paris Silk can sell the VT 30 65" for 61xx plus the 32" LED Tv and 2 discs, but if you factor in the rebate at BD, their deal of the free 32", calibration and BR player/disc bundle seems a tad better. That's not including the $100 per 3k you spend... Will see what the price is around November...
econav Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 please also check how many yrs warranty cover Vs BD /HN .
tsammyc Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Is the 70" Sony SXRD still being made? :) Are you still using yours? My 60" SXRD is still going strong after a lamp replacement (USD90) and is bright. I'm getting itchy. You?
vc Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I'm also using a 60" SXRD at the moment. Also itchy but after considering a potential upgrade to the latest 65" TVs, decided that it wasn't much of an upgrade in terms of screen size so now considering a projector and a much bigger screen instead ;)
InnocentBlood Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Are you still using yours? My 60" SXRD is still going strong after a lamp replacement (USD90) and is bright. I'm getting itchy. You? Yes I am! Replaced the lamp a couple of months ago & it's good as new so should serve me for another 3 years plus before I have to do another lamp replacement :) haven't seen anything quite like the 70" that I am used to so I can keep the upgraditis itchiness at bay - for now, that is ;)
petetherock Posted September 19, 2011 Author Posted September 19, 2011 24 Nov 2011 - 27 Nov 2011 SITEX I reckon that will be a good time to get a screen, and prices may have come down a bit too. Either the Panny or Samsung...
petetherock Posted September 19, 2011 Author Posted September 19, 2011 I thought very hard about a smaller TV, say 50" then a PJ. Measured up the space, its about 2m across, and even a 92" manual screen from Clarence won't fit :( So it's not much point to a PJ, so I will stick to a decent sized flatscreen instead.

Wolf1624705742 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Best Denki is selling the Samsung PS59D550 model for $2799 only. It includes 2 pairs of 3D glasses and all 4 Shrek 3D movies. Am getting interested in updating my current Samsung 50in plasma with this. Need to check other stores if they sell this cheaper.
