Over rated: Bruce Springsteen

Tedious stadium rock, all sounds the same

(duck for cover)

Overrated? Have you seen him live? I've never been a big fan but when I saw him at Hanging Rock a few years back I was in awe. 60+ years old, playing for three+ hours every night while inky skimming his vast back catalogue. This is not a bloke who shuffles on stage and noodles his way through a bunch of golden oldies. His energy and heart are evidenced in every sweat drenched performance during which he gives everything and at the end, leaves nothing on stage. And he's been doing this for 40 years give or take... You don't like "stadium rock"? That's fine but Springsteen overrated? You're having a lend.

People always think I'm Beatles bashing when I say they are overrated, but its a bit like this....... and for a few other who are north of the red line. Just a random pick of artists  :P

Over-rated: Elliot Smith

Under-rated: Nick Drake

How does that work

Both are highly rated by critics

Neither are popular

While I do very much like Elliot Smith's work, I believe it is overrated, "given too much importance, too much credit for what its worth". Its very highly rated, while I just rate it. And I'm only guessing, has relatively more popularity than Drake.

And on the other hand, Drake, who was an inspiration for Smith, is neither popular in the wider population, nor gets the absolutely most critical acclaim that I believe he deserves. His music is rated well, whereas it should be seen as nectar from the gods! ;) Hence under-rated.

But hey, that's just how I see it keyse1.  :)

I have a few points to make about Bruce Springsteen.

Everyone goes on about 'three hours' ! I'd rather see one and a half hours of 'great music', than three hours of same ole! His sound is monotone and his songs are not very captivating. I dunno, I just find him boring!  (ducks for cover) :sorry:

That is so wrong about The Beach Boys

One must realise that 'every' band is open slather in this thread!

There's no right or wrong, it's all opinion based! :hiccup

Under-rated: Tim Buckley

An early death is the most effective bucks making for a record company.

That said I liked Jeff even before knowing that the dude was killed.

+1 [Jeff Buckley]

Under-rated: Tim Buckley

I almost included Tim, but relatively recently I decided to explore his catalogue beyond the magnificent Greetings and Sefronia, and found the albums I got rather self-indulgent.

Would that not be apt for 'Jeff Buckley' as well?

Geez, I reckon Lord Bobness could be on the other side of the line

Over rated: Brian

Under rated: Axl

But you don't like Lenny either

Thus your opinion is doubly overrated

Bob has a lot of songs about people who don't like him

But I'll keep the secret

Sorry @@keyse1 but The Beach Boys are just lift music to me :party

And I thought you were a man of sophistication

Well able to appreciate the finer things in life

Your record player is tailor made for a record like Pet Sounds

Why not buy a copy next time you are at the Greville Street shop and give it a proper listen

Not that I think it matters or anything

But I like Sir Bobbington @keyes1

...and according to the cyber bullies on the Rockwiz facebook page, its not that I don't like Lenny, it's just that I'm not able to get him

I'll get back to you on that

In the meantime keep the hatches battened
