Quest88 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 when i apply the 1/3 rule to power application, it does not work out. so i have to sit at the fence. is there such a rule? but on this note - based on my history, i tend to have about only 10% of cost in power distributor/conditioners. (not counting power cords) i always thought it was higher myself..
Guest durianlover88 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Kit Chan - Song #5 ('obstinate') - bery bery good - I feel is her best rendition. Listen to it with the 240x and let me know. Pls put the 240x at the analog line for now since there is only 1 unit. I hope you survive well :) After having a vegetarian breakfast this morning with bro dl. I am enroute to audio nirvana tonite. It will be another late nite with kit chan, Alice lau and Diana panton. Lang Lang said he might be joining us if time permits. Hope I will survive unscattered.
bigtree Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 X is in the mains on my analog side. No music. Nothing yet. Turn on the main supply. The LED on my YBA-pre gave me an evil glow. It's brighter than the 240 before. I'm scare. The box is definitely evil.

ilovepanerai Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Good read review of the SA-1 power distributor. http://www.stereotimes.com/acc012612.shtml Cheers
Doggie Howser Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Interesting that Jim still makes a 12 socket version
SL Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I noticed the review lists the SA 1 at US$14k. Wow
Doggie Howser Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 For 12 sockets. Most of us have the 6 socket versions. Better bang for the buck. Get two to separate digital and analog
SL Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I don't mean to distract but any other options eg ("second best" ;) other than sound application? I can't seem to wrap my mind round the SA pricing.
Doggie Howser Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 You are not alone. I thought my PurePower was already OTT then when I got two of them. But the SA is just better. IMHO the PP is a pretty good design and it corrects a number of faults in power that SA or other conditioners do not, ie prevents brown outs over voltages etc but I suspect these aren't problems that are troubling Singaporean users.

I can't seem to wrap my mind round the SA pricing. Honestly, I am not familiar with any that exists in the same price bracket.. Personally I went for Orb which I felt suited my system better. Not cheap either, but not as expensive. There is also Gigawatt, and Torus seems popular in Malaysia forums.. I did not test Torus because it only has UK plugs. Haven't tried other high priced items like maybe Accuphase? Since DH mentioned Purepower, I agree with his view, with the added dimension that I feel it may work better depending if the equipment has little filtering or not. Purepower is also in a different price bracket, but IMO I thought it sound one of the best where it was at. I have a list in the thread over here.. http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=102521.0

I don't think SA is the final story either though. Music still sounded better at night- Giraffe can also attest to this. Also it didn't give me the quietest background I've ever had, though it's other benefits have gone unmatched (unfortunately).
francis wu Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 If you yearn for dead silent, then get an Iso Trans, you won't go wrong with it..... :)
bigtree Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 4 hours ago.... For those haven't heard X. DON'T.
Guest durianlover88 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Bro Bigtree, very jialat, very jialat...let's see what Giraffe will say after putting into his system...
Doggie Howser Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I hate durian. I was quite happy to buy the 3x preloved RLS240 that he and Giraffe already ran in since last year. But had to go listen to the RLS240X. Now kena poisoned. Anybody want a preloved RLS240 regular edition? I will go put up an ad later. Sleepless.

Who knows, there will be a 240Y next 6 months, and it will be USD16k, and then 240Z, USD20k... Too bad, for those on such a slippery path to upgrades :D A limited edition will be always be superceded by the next edition ;D ;D ;D
Doggie Howser Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Funny for someone who supports Japanese products yet don't believe in Continuous Improvements :) Ps dont buy the new Calyx femto DAC because maybe got another more tokkong one coming.
hotbird Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Funny for someone who supports Japanese products yet don't believe in Continuous Improvements :) Ps dont buy the new Calyx femto DAC because maybe got another one in a few years. What continuous improvements are there? Do you know the difference between an 240 and a 240X? Has there ever been a disclosure picture of what's inside the RLS240? There's no specifications on their website, and the reviews of them have so scarce information. At least the Calyx DAC and Femto specs are there for all to see.... Even Acoustic Revive has a website in japanese and english to tell us how it works. And they don't price it at 5 figures or have upgrades every 6 months.... ;D If I were you, you should ship back all the 3 RLS240 to the manufacturer and have it traded in back or upgraded to the RLS240X for the differential amount since the RLS240X was just released after you bought the 240. This should be what a responsible manufacturer should do, and not offload it at 2nd hand price to the market ;D ;D ;D
Doggie Howser Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Six months? Try over a year. Ps the X doesn't replace the regular 240. Just like the femto doesn't replace the regular Calyx. As for improvements between the two, there are of course those of us who have been privy to first hand observations and make up our own minds rather than just follow reviews blindly. In a similar way, the specs and measurements tell me the XDS1 is better than the MPS5 but I am still hankering for the MPS5 because I have heard it in my system and like how it sounds.
