Guest AndrewC Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Suits is back baby! :)... As heard on the latest episode….Big Black Delta "Money Rain Down"; [embed=425,349] [/embed]
Doggie Howser Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Been meaning to post this but the site was always down when I remembered. Still dithering - should I watch now or wait till the season is over...
Guest AndrewC Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Suits continues to inspire musically!! Looks like the set designers switched Harvey's turntable again… Closing scene has a fantastic shot of Charles Bardley's Victim of Love album spinning "Dusty Blue"… [embed=425,349] [/embed]
Guest AndrewC Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 The Oracle Paris turntable made an appearance on this week’s Episode; at Mike & Rachel’s home… No speakers or electronics to be found near-by though, just a bunch of vinyl. (One wonders where the Valerie June track playing in the background during the scene was coming from ;D)
Guest AndrewC Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Excellent track from Jim James, played out almost in full on this week’s episode… [embed=425,349] [/embed]
Doggie Howser Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Possible spoilers to follow I know this is a TV show and all, but seriously, I think no one in Mike's shoes would make that same decision that he did. It's a no brainer.
westendboy Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 We carried on with Suits S1E7-9. I love all 3 episodes. The writing is sublime. There are always 2-3 story threads running concurrently and they are not frivolously inserted for the wow factor. At the end how the threads reached their resolution serves to peel layers off the characters. 3 more to go. Should be finishing that tomorrow.
armoury Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Possible spoilers to follow I know this is a TV show and all, but seriously, I think no one in Mike's shoes would make that same decision that he did. It's a no brainer. The problem is that if Mike made the "right" decision, the show can't really continue, at least not in its present format. But the whole premise was always fundamentally flawed, no way a law firm would allow a non-lawyer to parade around as one, there's just too much liability involved. If Mike had at least been to a crappy night-law school and actually passed the Bar, so his 'fraud' was only in relation to having been to Harvard, that would be credible. As an aside, I was curious as to how this could even be credible, since for instance NUS law only has about 200 students a year, so there is no way for someone to pass himself off as a graduate of a particular year without being found out if/when he runs into someone really from that batch. Turns out Harvard has about 1,500-1,800 per batch, which does make it credible that you could run into a classmate you don't know/remember. Heck I don't necessarily know everyone in my secondary school batch of about 340, never mind JC year of 800+.
Doggie Howser Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 The problem is that if Mike made the "right" decision, the show can't really continue, at least not in its present format. That is perfectly clear to me. Which then asks the question - why create that scenario then? :)
armoury Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 That is perfectly clear to me. Which then asks the question - why create that scenario then? :) To "prove", if that was really necessary in the first place, that Mike really, really, wants to be a lawyer. Ties in with what the gambling addict lawyer (can't remember his name) who was trying to shake down Harvey's client said to Mike, when Mike called his bluff and pushed him to take the settlement on offer -- the lawyer gave some impassioned speech about how all he ever wanted to do was be a lawyer, which must have resonated with Mike. With the Singapore Court's records now also all electronic and online, I wonder if we'll ever see the day when something similar happens here, i.e. someone hacks the system and puts himself on the roll of advocates & solicitors? Then again, who would want to... ;)

Guest AndrewC Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 ...but it just feels like lazy writing to me. I agree... the smart thing for the writers to do would have been for Mike to take the job and then script a return... I get the sense they're going to play the Mike's-going-to-get-exposed card one too many times...
Guest AndrewC Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Woohoho nicely done… Guess the writers are pretty smart after all, I should have guessed they'd keep it for the season finale ;D Brilliant track from Sanders Bohlke, "An Unkindness of Ravens" - hadn’t even heard of him before now. Not on Youtube somehow, give it a listen, it's also in iTunes. Edit: An unkindness of Ravens [embed=425,349] [/embed]

And I can't believe it.. only 2 more months before the next season!!?? Nice. Also love the remix of How Do You Like Me Now. Can't find it on iTunes or on Amazon either
Guest AndrewC Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 ... Also love the remix of How Do You Like Me Now. Can't find it on iTunes or on Amazon either Likewise! It's the "Raffertie remix”, seems to be all over the place now, all ripped right from Suits…. even YouTube ;D Edit: Raffertie remix posted by the man himself [flash=600,400]http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=91712305
armoury Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 And I can't believe it.. only 2 more months before the next season!!?? Nice. Because they artificially split each season in half. Which I suppose does make it all more tolerable, and maintains quality in each episode cf network TV which insists on 22 or so eps per season, resulting in 'filler' episodes.
westendboy Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 With the missus, we have not been watching much movies at home. We have been binge-watching Suits S2. I know I am slow. I will getting my hands on S3 very soon. With the missus, we have started on Suits S2. The opening song by Gotye, Smoke and Mirrors is so apt. Lyrics seldom ever sticks in my mind (I am more of a melody guy) but last night for the first time I heard the first line of the song as Mike Ross steps into frame - "You are a fraud and you know it" I google the lyrics and wow... Great song choice. [embed=425,349] [/embed] You're a fraud and you know it But it's too good to throw it all away Anyone would do the same You've got 'em going And you're careful not to show it Sometimes you even fool yourself a bit It's like magic But it's always been a smoke and mirrors game Anyone would do the same So now that you've arrived well you wonder What is it that you've done to make the grade And should you do the same? (Is that too easy?) Are you only trying to please them (Will they see then?) You're desperate to deliver Anything that could give you A sense of reassurance When you look in the mirror Such highs and lows You put on quite a show All these highs and lows And you're never really sure What you do it for Well do you even want to know? You put on quite a show So from 7 May till just now today, we were on a row. Very very addictive. My wife gets a kick out of the "get another piece of pie for your wife" line from the theme song :). S2 takes a new direction. S1's thrust is usually the case/s of the week and a few ongoing storylines. S2 changes the formula by throwing in some office politics and power struggle. Lots of characters are caught in the crossfire. The acting is very compelling and the characters are very well-written. Love the witty and razor sharp banter with lots of pop-culture references and movie quotes thrown in. For a movie geek like me, recognizing the references is such a hoot. Love the chemistry between the actors. I don't think I need to mention all the usual suspects like Harvey and Mike, Mike and Rachel and so on. This season I really enjoy watching Harvey and Donna. Layers are peeled, so much is implied. I really thought Donna (Sarah Rafferty) stole all the scenes she is in. This season also showcases a worthy nemesis in Daniel Hardman (David Costabile). He is quietly menacing, a master schemer. I am also glad Louis Litt has so much more screen-time too. His slimey face is pure perfection - sometimes I hate him but most of the time I just wanna high-five the fella. The stories are great and provided lots of opportunities for growth in the strong characters. I have always believed that for a TV series to reach that illustrious top level, the storylines should always served the characters' arcs and not the other way around. Suits is a good illustration of this. 42 min breeze by like nothing. Of course, a lot of the situations are not realistic - these lawyers solve cases faster than I can bend down and touch my toes. But when characters are so compellingly written I can oversee many stuff. My wife loves this series but has a problem suspending her disbelief on one crucial premise of which the whole series is based on - Harvey and Mike's lie. I am with her on this one. How can Jessica being the managing partner of the firm closed an eye on the whole issue? Mike Ross is like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and when it does he will obliterate everything in his path. It doesn't make sense to keep him in the fold. For one photographic memory enhanced Mike Ross, the firm can easily get 2 to 3 to do what he does. But of course it won't be much of a series without him. No mojo. Lastly, I love all the dresses Donna, Jessica and Rachel don every episode. Oh dear... What does that say about me? :)

Guest AndrewC Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Just another 17 days to Suits Season 4! ;D In the mean time... Which character are you? Take the test - http://www.usanetwork.com/content/which-character-are-you Damn, thought I was a Mike :P
Guest AndrewC Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I'm Mike allegedly :) Same as my gf ;D.... Seems like everyone's results is either a Harvey or Mike ;)
westendboy Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Call me Rachel 8) Yes, you're a Rachel. Smart, industrious and committed to what you do, but you deserve better. You probably already know this, but you're not willing to cheat to get ahead, even if you've seen others do it. You think of yourself as smart, but being held back has sapped your confidence a little and you don't always stand up for yourself. You need to realize that it's ok to go after what you want. Remember, no one ever got ahead without being bold from time to time. My wife is a Rachel too ;D
