Pismo Mac Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I have a pair of Etymotics ER6i. I think the cables broke, and need to be replaced. I had approached the Cable Surgeon and he was not able to replace them. Would there be alternatives? Also have another set of Westones and would like to them have customized with ear inserts. I approached Stereo and they no longer provide this service. Again, any alternatives?
silencer13 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 As far as I know, Etys can only be replaced by Etymotics themselves. You need to contact them, they will give you a RMA number, then you can send it to them and they will replace the whole cable + do a checkup. That's what I did with my ER4P. Did you buy them locally? Can the seller help you with the process?
alamakazam Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 u need to break open the shell to replace the cable, not many will risk their reputation to do that so reshell to become a custom mold earpiece is the only safest way, stereo still do this you can send your iem and ear mold direct to manufacturers. ACS is one of them http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=60&Itemid=117
Pismo Mac Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Silencer - No, bought them a long while back in a MO. Ety was not represented back then in Singapore. Things have changed since then. Guess I'll drop a note to Ety on the RMA. Alamakazam - I approached Stereo (Plaza Singapure branch) a couple of weeks back and was told that they do not do customization any more. Not sure if the ER6i could be reshell for customization. I would want to do it for my Westones as well. Are there are other outfits in Singapore that could do customization?

Guess I'll drop a note to Ety on the RMA. If I remember correctly, it cost around $50 to replace the cable, including shipping costs. That was for my ER4P with detachable cable. ER6 looks like the cable is soldered in, so my guess is that it'll cost more. If it's goes closer to $100, might wanna consider just getting some other IEM. Maybe the UE TF-10 from Amazon that goes for US$99 from time to time? For re-shelling, I found this page, don't know if the company is still around: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=92118.0
