I auditioned TN696 and really impressed with it

Listening to DTS virtualise is so much different to compare with DTS-hd master (  which currently listening )

Only flaw it has one optical input.

Just hooted the outgoing TX-NR686 Onkyo at 699 at AudioHouse Bendemeer over weekend.

Value buy I must say as I was resisting to change out my old 608 and have tried various HDMI splitter for 4k video duties. Now all is good and I am getting UHD video and HD audio all sorted out.

I am sure there are other more better AVR but am happy with this.

Btw I am still running 5.1 hence exploring what are value for money atmos speaker for the front.

Suggestions?

You can't go cheap if you intend to go the Atmos Reflection speaker route. 2 possible options you can look at - i.e. Elac A4 or the Pioneer SP-T22A-LR. The last time I knew was both speakers carry by Alpha Audio. Give them a call to check on availability. It won't burn a hole in your pocket. I highly recommend the Elac A4 over the rest.

bought NR-696 and Im blown away.

before buying this amp, listening effect was always HD master or HD digital.

But with this amp, DTS Neural:X and even THX soundstage are present.

Listening to THX for my first time is like my ears on drugs. Effects are clear and distributed dynamically

to each of my speakers ... stunningly. BTW,  Im watching Starwars Collection bluray to get that effect.

And DTS Neural:X ... never heard nor try using this effect.

I think Im going to like it even more to compare to HD master.

Only gripe while watching movies Vocals are not crisp enough.

Music are excellent with equalizers ON.

Only thing is - I need to buy more new bluray movies to enjoy its glory ...  ;D

Congrats on getting your new toy. You all setup for Atmos/DTS-X with overhead speakers?

Done AccuEq calibration yet?

When you have time, do a AccuEq calibration and then fine tune that with a manual volume level calibration. I use an Android app called Sound Analyzer App to help with the volume level calibration as I don't have a sound level meter anymore.

No overhead speakers as yet.

But I think using DTS Neural:X is just like listening to high speaker, virtually.

Calibration done too.

while listening to music using 'Music Optimiser' helps. listening mode is wider in 2.1 to compare to 'OFF' status....never been happier

Hi guys, I have a new NR676E, used for 14 months watching movies n playing xbox, now the HDMI display output is missing signal. Did minor troubleshooting myself by swapping HDMI cables, devices, n still had the same problems. Brought down to Hwee Seng n the tech told me cost 500 to change the board! Is more than half the price of a new unit when first bought. Brought the unit home without changing n switched it on few days. It worked again for a few movies and back to same problem. Is there a cheaper alternative to change the board or whatever that is causing this problem? Or do I need to get a new unit? Thanks.

676, 676E and 686 all had same HDMI issues. They launched 696 in Europe market first then in asia and US to follow. Im a fan of Onkyo but with all these HDMI issues and stability i'm switching to Denon and waiting for 4600H launch.

I thought the HDMI issues were in the past already, like 2014 batch or earlier..haiz

Hi.

I am wondering whether anyone has seen the same problems that i am having with my Onkyo RZ730.

Occasionally, sound playing from the centre speaker will also played through my ceiling speakers but with a slight delay. So nett effect is like echo from the ceiling.

On/off mains power will resolved it until it happens again.

Thanks

my RZ730 also  shifts my center channel sound to other speakers like front L or R or surround and I have to toggle through the Movies button on the remote to fix it. I only experience this with my Windows PC playing through Plex app. It's fine with Apple TV, Xbox, bluray player etc.
