ralfale Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Ops... Missed that but I'm really surprised this is not available.
Doggie Howser Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Pioneer looks to have most of checkpoints ticked. But no Audyssey DSX or XT32 with Pro option
ralfale Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I've curious about the pro option too but i've never get to do it. The last time i read about it for my current Onkyo 5508, it seems rather expensive.
DizzyD1624705734 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Is there any objective article there on comparison between Audysessy, MACC, YPAO and AccuEQ? Keen to know if such calibration system can be assessed on it technical merits and any form of measurement can be done.

Keen to know if such calibration system can be assessed on it technical merits and any form of measurement can be done. I have been looking for such an article for ages but found none so far. If you able to find one, do post here. For AccuEQ, it's going to be hard to find an article based solely on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
HT102 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Onkyo has announced as well. They have kept the THX certifications unlike Pioneer, but dropped Audyssey altogether. http://www.intl.onkyo.com/whats_new/2014_0601.html http://www.intl.onkyo.com/products/av_components/av_receivers/index.html
HT102 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Well, this generation of Pioneer AVRs may be the last as Pioneer is selling its AV business to Onkyo.. ---------------- Ref: http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Deals/Pioneer-selling-audiovisual-business-to-Onkyo-investment-fund Pioneer selling audiovisual business to Onkyo, investment fund TOKYO -- Japanese electronics maker Pioneer will sell its audiovisual equipment business to a coalition of compatriot audio equipment maker Onkyo and investment fund Baring Private Equity Asia. The sell-off is aimed at improving its profitability amid dwindling demand due to the spread of online video and music distribution. Pioneer, Onkyo and Baring Private Equity Asia reached a basic agreement and will announce the decision later Tuesday. Baring Private Equity Asia will buy a 51% interest in Pioneer Home Electronics, and Onkyo will acquire an unspecified interest. Pioneer will retain a stake in the company. It will decide the value of the deal later. Sales at the Pioneer unit were roughly 108 billion yen ($1.05 billion) in fiscal 2013, about a fifth of the group total. Pioneer has positioned the car navigation business as a key growth pillar, with the segment accounting for 70% of sales. It had been considering restructuring Pioneer Home Electronics, and held negotiations with Funai Electric and D&M Holdings about a possible sell-off. Pioneer will work with Onkyo in such areas as product design, component procurement, distribution and sales. The products will continue to be sold under the Pioneer brand. Onkyo will drastically review its cost structure, including in the area of procurement, by taking advantage of Pioneer's technologies. Onkyo logged sales of 36 billion yen in fiscal 2013. (Nikkei)
tane0019 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Maybe Onkyo 2015 line-up will make use of Class D inside ;D
kzone Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 those that have in ceiling / in wall speakers, how much space do u need to install such speakers?
c7221624705751 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I love this article from audioholics: (sorry if it is already posted) http://www.audioholics.com/editorials/dolby-atmos-home-theater "Our brains are hardwired to perceive sound in a horizontal plane. We evolved to evade tigers not pigeons." :)
rayleh Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 those that have in ceiling / in wall speakers, how much space do u need to install such speakers? I believe you meant the thickness of the false ceiling and wall? I am using Def Tech and the thickness of my false ceiling and wall is 150mm.
DizzyD1624705734 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Pioneer looks to have most of checkpoints ticked. Pioneer SC-85 caught my attention and it has dual sub calibration capability and a USB DAC too!....I heard Francis Woo pioneer AVR before and I think the sound is pretty engaging...I never had Pioneer before so this could be my first.
desray Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 With onkyo forgoing the audyssey in their future AV Receivers, I dun suppose I will much of any new developments in the audio calibration when onkyo took control of pioneer AV dept. I guess Denon and Marantz with Audyssey are starting to look more "enticing" now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest francishuang Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Apparently Datasat has a model (already in Singapore) which has such technology (Auro 3D), but the price is prohibitive. Eagerly waiting for the AV7702 Auro placement some what diff. Heights above all exsiting channels excluding subs
kzone Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I believe you meant the thickness of the false ceiling and wall? I am using Def Tech and the thickness of my false ceiling and wall is 150mm. which model if u can share? Considering between totally in wall/ceiling vs the Anthony Gallo balls..
Began Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Hi, May I know is this only good for action movies? How about drama or concerts? Thanks
tane0019 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 http://blog.dolby.com/2014/06/dolby-atmos-coming-soon-living-room-near/ By Brett Crockett, Director of Sound Research In 2012 when we introduced Dolby Atmos®, the groundbreaking cinema sound system that puts moviegoers in the middle of the action, I started imagining how much better my home theater—and millions of others—could sound. From hearing the exciting cinema sound that Dolby Atmos made possible, I knew there was the potential to raise home entertainment to an entirely new level. So our research and home theater teams began work on bringing Dolby Atmos to the living room. Our goal was to make home theater sound better than ever, while giving audio enthusiasts flexible choices in how they set up their system. I’m proud to say that after a lot of dreaming, experimentation, and innovation, we’ve succeeded in creating an incredible Dolby Atmos experience for the home that will be available to any entertainment fan. Dolby Atmos has the amazing ability to have sounds come from above you. In the movie Noah, for instance, Dolby Atmos in the cinema made it sound like the torrential rains were pouring down from the sky on top of you. And if you saw Godzilla in a Dolby Atmos movie theatre, hearing the monster roar above you was beyond realistic—it was terrifying. You’re probably wondering how you can recreate this effect in your living room. We want to make bringing Dolby Atmos into your home as easy as possible, so we’ve given you choices. If you’re willing and able to install speakers in your ceiling, there will be great options. If that’s not possible for you—and for many people, it isn’t—our partners will offer new Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers that produce full, detailed overhead sound from speakers located where your conventional speakers are now. If you already have speakers that you love, you can choose an add-on, Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker module that complements your existing speakers. (In fact, many people will place the modules right on top of their current speakers.) How do we create the sensation of sounds above your head if there are no speakers above your head? It’s complicated, but it all comes down to understanding the physics of sound waves and understanding the way your brain interprets those sound waves.
Guest francishuang Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Object base atmos calibration is abt distance n delay. The in ceilings need not be directly above the left right or surrounds. All these can be compensated by the calibrating software delay functions. If atmos were to get more n more common, i wouldnt be suprise if more company will drop audessy like onkyo. http://blog.dolby.com/2014/06/dolby-atmos-coming-soon-living-room-near/ By Brett Crockett, Director of Sound Research
