Hi everyone,

I was offered these speakers but there are no model markings on it at all. I was told these are Aaron speakers. Looking at the Aaron website this is not their current line of speakers.

Did some image searching and the drivers seem to be the same as these "Aaron Duo". Further search revealed a pack that included these Aaron Duo bookshelves with Aaron Octet floorstanding speakers. Unfortunately the grill was on and there was no pictures of the drivers. I couldn't find any info on the Aaron Octet.

Can someone please help me identify them?

Thanks

The Aaron site has a list of discontinued models. From that list it looks like they are either octat mk2 (297mm deep) or eclipse (397mm deep) if they are 900mm high and 280mm wide.

thanks for that. it does seem that way. therefore these are at least 17 years old (ended production in 1995). is that too old for a speaker?

Not necessarily, I've had and used much older speakers. But it depends how they've been looked after...

Not necessarily but you could try a couple of things.

Try pushing gently and evenly on each of the cone drivers. Push on the cone itself (not the dustcap) and space your fingers evenly around the cone. If you hear a scraping sound then the voice coil may be coming away, which is more or less irreperable.

Try listening to them one after the other (eg by flicking an amp's balance control back and forth) If both speakers sound the same, they are either in good working condition or they both have exactly the same problem. (Keep in mind that room placement also has an effect though.)

That's about all I can think of to do short of pulling them apart..
