its good too see west aussies buying edwards speakers. my mate heard mine and is buying these wonderful speakers. adelaide is so lucky to have so many good speaker manufacturers.

I see from the website that he uses solid wood cabinets. How do they sound? Isn't solid wood meant to resonate more than the MDF? Other than that, they do look good value for money.

hope you can do that rural rat. it would be handy for a south aussie to give a feedback on edwards speakers. im here in west oz and have given my thoughts after buying these speakers in which i have a very high regard for.

Well I have to wait three weeks for mine too and it is going to be a difficult wait. I sat down with Edward last Thursday and we talked and listened for a couple of hours comparing the few speakers he had ready to go. (The rest of his house is filled with components) It was a real pleasure. I re-discovered the long sleeping audiophile in me. I was impressed with the clarity and detail of the sound across the frequency range and his willingness to tweak the speakers to meet my wishes. The ones I have ordered are not exactly on the web site but are non-ported 3 ways and stand 900 by 240 wide and 320 deep. Not too big but hopefully big enough. The price / value equation was the decider. I have listened to others including the VAFs which are impressive but for my budget the Ascensions are too tempting. Guess I will have a more considered opinion in a few weeks. Ahh.

ozpaul, was that your first post? Welcome to the forum and what a good first-up post. It must be good to purchase 'tailer made' speakers.

Looking forward to your updates when the speakers finally arrive.

Can only reinforce these thoughts. I too spent 1-2 hours listening to both my own selections and Edwards recommendations. Mightily impressed! I dont think anyone could be more helpful and patient. I dont profess to be an expert but what he has to demo sure sounded fine to me. A little more discussion of my needs/wants/preferences and I am pretty sure where my $ are going.

Just want to hang off for the VAF GTG though.

Decisions, decisions:)

OK, after thinking about this for a couple of days I will attempt to convey my impressions. Bearing in mind the demo speakers Edward uses are from the Timberwolf range with max price around $800/pr. I also make no claims on being an expert on this, just really enjoy my music.

The clarity of sound is superb in all ranges (to my ear at least). Highs crystal clear, Bass very nice and creamy without being overwhelming with the extreme lows being felt as well as heard. Midrange also very clear, the overall cohesiveness really impressed.

Soundstage and headroom immense. Most of this was at lower/mid volumes so by no means blowing us away.

One CD I provided is unique as it was made by a friend of mine in a private studio in The Barossa, so not a big$ production. Folky acoustic stuff. I could have sworn Carol was in that room singing to us!:)

On top of this Ed provides individual tweaking as required to suit amp/room whatever you want.

I will most likely go for the Summoner 963, with a few tweaks to suit my room. Which Ed assures me will be better again! With more of everything.

Should I change my amp, I will let Ed know, he will give them another tweak if necessary.

So hard not to be impressed with all this......But the VAF GTGs not far off either:rolleyes:

I did also view a set of back speakers for a "West Australian guy". Anyone here? They look superb!

Hey! well done RR. you make me want to run out and buy a pair - If I had the money, that is:rolleyes:

Does he have a special demo room or shed that he does all this in?

For a $1,000, I don't think you would get much from VAF's.

I am thinking the same regards the $. Wallets is a trembling!!

No special room, basic lounge room in a house thats about to be demolished. He's moving real soon.

seems to know what hes talking about, most of which went in one ear and out the other as I didn't understand.

have a buget of upto $1800 for fronts should I be looking else first say VAF/Krix/others??

my thoughts were I could spend upto $1k with edward and

be happy with the speakers and use the extra $800 for centre and part of my rears any thoughts??

If your in SA and can get to Adelaide try and come along to the VAF GTG (see releavnt thread for details) god opportunity to hearr them first hand and get some ideas from members. Would encourage you to try ouout all those local options and others as well. And also consider 2nd hand market - if there is no rush something good will come up via an SNA member sooner or later.

i have the vaf 1-93s also which i like also. i think if you buy edwards speakers or the vafs [many models to choose from] you wont be unhappy.

i have the classic series speakers from edward. if you put a name brand badge on them they would be worth 3 times more.

really its the individual to judge the sound they like. they dont sound like a jamo or a bose speaker .

i think his speakers are better than krix , thats my opinion only...cheers

Edwareds speakers do appear good but would encourage you to shop around. i do love my Krix and was able to get them at a great price - otherwise I may have had Edwards speakers in my lounge instead.

I would try out as many options as you can initially and then worry about best value for money/budget as the next step in the process.

Whilst edwards are going t be cheaper pound for pound thats probbaly only true iof you pay full retail - you can get the others either seond hand or at specials - ie I hate to say it but Hardley Normals in the City have a pair of black Lyrix Golds run out pair out on special at the moment for a great price and Krix also do a once a year factory direct sale where you can get some very very good bargains.

Also Vaf would have various specials and of course there are the many other 2nd hand options that come up.

Not to put you of Edwards product but would really encouage you to try out as many as you can and this will help you be happy with your final purchase.

Good luck and dont foget the upcoming Vaf GTG.

Thanks for the advise.

see if i can get down to krix one day next week.

how do I find out when the VAF GTG is, does it get posted in the

"Events, Meetings & GTG's"?

Yep! I think it's headed; Adelade GTG2. It's on the 18th May, unless there is a change.

Got the long awaited call from Edward yesterday to same my speakers had been built and where leaving by courier last night, bad news is they are not going to be delivered until Monday which is a bit of a bummer as I was hoping to have had them over the weekend to enjoy. Guess it gives me a day or two to pull out some decent music Cd's & DVDs to have ready to listen too when they are set up.
