desray Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Now Philips enters the fray, and at a Samsung level pricing..http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/phillips-4k-uhd-blu-ray-all-hdr-4k-tv-lineup/ Oh yes...more plz. :D
Audio Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 No, I am not selling my 1100ES. Yes, it cannot support HDR but hell, I have been enjoying exceptional 1080p upscaled 4K enteratinment for over 2 years. So good is the picture quality, now I am havimg a hard time making out just how good native 4K media is. Having a higher dynamic range for picture is a good thing but sometimes, we need the details to come in as well. It is just like Audio....dynamic and loud doesn't means good...you need details to come in as well. LOL, sell the 1100ES and go for plastic lens? On the 1100ES, HDMI 1 input is not 2.2 HDCP compliance. The player will force output down to 1080p. You need to connect the UHD-K8500 to HDMI 2 to stay at 4K resolution. Also an alert to potential owners, they had been talks on various forums that many bought defective units with blinking red power led and had to return them. Well, yes, mine came with blinking red power LED as well!! But the tray can be ejected and the screen display the setup menu. They also prompt you to download the upgrade to firmware 003 and wahla, the power LED turned to steady green after boot-up. (Audio)
htfreak Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 But I can say that the picture quality of Mad Max -Fury Road is really something to behold. I am having mixed feelings about Martian though. (Audio) Given that I don't have a 4K display at this moment, the only thing that I can test is connecting to my existing 1080p projector and based on a quick A/B comparison of the regular Bluray and the downrezzed 4K Bluray image, I do notice additional detail shown on the downrezzed 4K playback of the Martian movie.
Doggie Howser Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 If I recall... 1100ES doesn't have HDR support. Need to check again... Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk I'm psychoing Audio to upgrade. So I can have his 1100ES :D
Doggie Howser Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 LOL, sell the 1100ES and go for plastic lens? As far as I know the 5000ES doesn't use plastic lens :D

(Audio) Exactly my thoughts...I really liked my VW500ES and like you mentioned, it really produce an outstanding near-4K upscaling image quality easily for any 1080p source that I throw at it.
desray Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 As far as I know the 5000ES doesn't use plastic lens :D VW5000ES is the crown jewel right now if you can afford one...so if you are super "rich" and wanted the best of in everything - 4K, HDMI 2.0a for HDR, WCG and more importantly, laser!!! This is definitely the one to go for!

desray Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 See Audio.. endorsed by desray. what else do u need? :D Cannot be bro Audio won't want to upgrade to a VW5000ES if he really gets a gooood deal...even half the MSRP, I also cannot afford it but I bet Bro Audio, no issue. Unlike him, I have to literally take a bank loan (if really want it) and pay for 2 - 3yrs just to get my hands on this baby! LoL...better wake up from my day dream!

I have been struggling for months trying to get a Netflix UHD steam to project from an Nvidia Shield through a Marantz 8802 into the Sony 1100ES. Tried all sorts of workarounds without success until I saw your post and then voila!! The HDCP 2.2. compliance only with HDMI 2 is not included anywhere in the manual. Thanks for posting this.

tiktokape Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Audio, have you tried opening your Samsung up to check the voltage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Audio Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Audio, have you tried opening your Samsung up to check the voltage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Opening up the player? Why? (Audio)
tiktokape Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Opening up the player? Why? (Audio) It was posted that the internal part have showed 100 to 240v, 50 to 60Hz, 2A, just wondering your set is indeed as well. No worries if hassle. Cheers!
Audio Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Is it? Ok, I will open it up tonight and hopefully post favourable pictures. (Audio)
Audio Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 My web server is down and I can't post pictures until this coming weekend. I opened the Samsung player but found nothing conclusive that suggests it will accepted 220VAC input. They did mention a 250VAC fuse rating on the PCB but nothing else indicate 220VAC operation.....don't think anyone would want to risk it. :) (Audio)
htfreak Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Audio, not sure if you are aware of this but if you were to redeem your Ultraviolet codes for some of your UHD discs on the Vudu site directly, you will be given access to the UHD digital copy. I tried this for my Mad Max Fury Road title and the UHD access was unlocked. Vudu currently has about 34 UHD Digital titles out of which I think we can redeem about 4 titles namely PAN, Lego Movie, Mad Max and San Andreas.
tiktokape Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Thanks Audio for the trouble [emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
petetherock Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 I don't think we are in the same region for the UV codes.. tried it before without success
tiktokape Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I don't think we are in the same region for the UV codes.. tried it before without success Even with enabled VPN?
htfreak Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I have no problems redeeming UV or iTunes codes thru the StrongVPN service. As for playback on Vudu, it works for ViewQwest customers who have the Freedom VPN add-on. May refresh my iMac for the new Retina 5K just to enjoy UHD playback for the time being until LG launches the G6 OLED TV.
tiktokape Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 No VPN bro :( You should trial Smart DNS and give it a go.

htfreak Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Does current 4K BR releases throw in 4K UV codes? I only know about the 4 titles mentioned earlier on VUDU. Sony will launch a new 4K streaming site on Monday which can be linked to UV as well. So it's possible that UV codes on those Sony 4K titles (i.e. Spidey 2, Chappie) may allow 4K digital stream playback. Will try it out on Monday and report back.
