malsound Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Hehe, Look like Harry have a clean shave and put on a penny ring. :o ;D Inviting Orbe owners is like self-inflicting myself with a slow doze of poison. Why would I want to do that? ;D As for Gyrodec owners halfway towards Orbe, I am sure pure Gyrodeckers would show much love to these trans gender people as we are very inclusive ;D For Mitchell clamp owners, maybe my first door gift would interest you Quoting from Michell:- You can try the following to test out if there is any sonic change to your system. Some users say it improves the sound. Replace the black washer with the black rubber ring above (looks like a condom without protection) :) For Michell Clamp owners, if you are interest in the door gift, please post a picture of your clamp over your tt please. I have only 5 to give away! So first come first serve
Steve.Y Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I am the Gyrodec halfway turned Orbe owner. My dec is an early 2000 version. It was of AC motor powered by Gyropower QC. I have changed to DC motor recently. For more than 10 years of using this rig, I have partnered it with various tonearms, learnt some careless mistakes I made but til now it is still my favourite TT.

Welcome bro! Nice rig you have there. I am currently still on AC Gyropower QC. Did you notice any sonic improvement when you switch to DC motor please? Also is the DC motor available in SG or do you need to import in please? Lol ... as to the mistakes made ... I have lots to share too. That's for another day to share :)
Steve.Y Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 My DC motor was installed and run just about a week ago. I won't give too much of comments but initial impression is better detail of music passages. What makes me change to DC? Well it is a bit of long story to explain, but basically it was due to a silly mistake I made and ended up a change is necessary. Some information I'd like to share with all users of Michell Engineering turntable here: Ultralinear is no longer an agent for Michell. No official agent in Malaysia as well. Major UK reseller, Analogue Seduction, informed me that AC and DC motors are no longer available to purchase as spares. USA distributor (www.artech-electronics.com) and one ebay seller have the DC motor for sales. Unfortunately, their prices are much higher. Do take note that the PSU is 120v. If order from US, you have to change it to 240v by a simple mod on the PCB. USA resellers do not provide international shipping of the motor, so I used V Post to get it shipped. It is impossible to get a new AC PAPST motor now, as it is no longer in the production by the German manufacturer. It is usually cheaper to buy Michell' products from the UK resellers. jayou Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Thanks Steve for sharing. It is a pity the such a great product is not represented here now. Good info on alternative sources that you have highlighted :)
blue_starfish Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 You can order DC motor kit from Origin Live and DIY fix onto Gyrodec. As Origin Live has a local dealer, alternatively you can ask them to do the upgrade http://www.originlive.com/products/upgrading-any-deck-or-arm/turntable-upgrades-modifications-modification-3/motor-kit-prices.html http://www.originlive.com/michel-gyrodec-motor-power-supply.html
wuming8812 Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Dear All I have the original gyrodec ( the one with the vinly transparent cover ) and the original power supply ( again the one with the transparent power supply in a clear box ). The 3 suspension spring holding the record platter ( the original silver one ) seems to be sagging as the platter seems to be sinking lower and lower. Could anyone advise me on where to service this ? Also, if I wish to upgrade, can I just swap the power supply to a HR power supply ? Can I just change the platter to the black colour orbe platter ? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
malsound Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 All can. http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?t=34504 http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/upgrade-kits/ http://www.analogueseduction.net/michell-engineering-upgrades-parts-accessories/michell-engineering-2-piece-suspension-tower-upgrade-for-earlier-gyrodec-orbe.html http://www.angelfire.com/music5/michell_gyrodec/step_by_step/manual.html http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?81504-IC-Michell-Gyrodec-with-Orbe-Platter http://www.walrus.co.uk/michell/gyro_in_bits.html http://www.artech-electronics.com/us/products/michell/mich_upg.html
wuming8812 Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Nice thread but seems like all the upgrade kits can only be bought from internet. Any one carrying these upgrade in Singapore ? any shop offering this service ? Thanks very much
Steve.Y Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Hi wuming, you need to replace the suspension springs if too long not been changed. Is your existing PS runs on AC? Do note that HRPS is DC. Yes...you have to order online as no dealers here and Malaysia. Analogue Seduction is a better place to buy.
