You're not a real blues man till you've fashioned your own from a bottle neck! No filing it down either. You need to let that sucker cut you so the pain comes out in your playing!

Head on down to your local plumbing suppliers buy it by the meter, chop them up and sell on ebay yourself. Life hacks by MC240 ;)

I got a mate of mine to machine a tapered custom job out of a solid block of stainless!

(cause we got medical grade stainless for free)

Can't find that one either!

(I'm pretty hopeless at slide..............that's why I need to practice!.............and I've been listening to too many blues greats box sets)

Try slidin in open E and see how you go if you can't get a reasonable tune outa that your just not trying, Or try tuning down 1/2 a step / E flat.

This guy does a good tutorial on slide in open E shows you what need to know and doesn't **** on for 5 minutes about s hit you want or need to know.

Yeah.........open E is what I mostly use..........but was trying a bit of open G like Keef.

edit - I can get a tune going............it's just my technique is poor, hence I need practice.

That's what I used to tell my students............it's all about technique.

I bought the 3 Tedeschi Trucks Band CD's at JB on Monday, plus the Derek Trucks band Songlines Live DVD ..... been listening to them while searching for S.G's, surprise surprise.

I've got two metal slides, one is one of those really short ones, which I have no idea where it came from, as I would never have bought it, the other is standard length, but is heavily tarnished, so ATM it sound crap.

I've found some of the glass slides I've bought previously to either be to big, or make my finger sweat so quickly that they both fall off, although I think they were both some sort of plexiglass, neither were very heavy weight.

I wouldn't mind trying one of those medicine bottle types, they seem to get the thumbs up, around $30 on Ebay for the heavy glass ones.

We had a importer of Italian wines in a month or so ago, some of the bottles were the thickest glass bottles I've ever seen in my life, I brought some empties home to make some slides out of.

This 750ml Velenosi Roggio Del Filare bottle, empty weights 1.6kg!!

You gotta laugh, just when you think you have found something neat, you find it's actually better than you thought.

While looking for a local store to buy a Jetslide, I found the Ebay seller that makes them

Looks like there are quite a few different options with this thing.

From a stainless steel version, to additional brass sleeve that adds mass from the normal 5/16" to 3/8"

Plus there is even a glass sleeve for it !

On another topic.

Anybody ever used / bought a A/B/Y switcher pedal?

My VOX AC15C1X amp has two channels, Normal and Top Boost, but they aren't switchable.

Apparently if I get a A/B/Y switch pedal I can run the input fronm the guitar [or effects] then split the signal with two cables, one into each of the amps inputs, then I can run either channel or both.

I'm reading conflicting reports about them, some say they work fine, others are saying they had hum problems

Guys!....listen to this rendition of the famous classical guitar piece, 'Recuerdos de la Alhambra' performed by Pepe Romero.

Whether you're into classical guitar or not, you will see the most accomplished performance of this piece that is perhaps possible....his technique is simply mind-boggling.

Turn up the volume and enjoy.

Fender are discontinuing the American Standard Strat's ....I'm in shock as well.

Well my gear acquisition syndrome isn't getting any better unfortunately, at least it isn't consistent, I sort of suffer it fits and bouts.

Apart from the Japanese made Tokai SG and rather floral/paisley vinyl wrapped case that arrived last Friday [lovely guitar, I should have bought a SG years ago, perfect for just noodling on un-plugged while watch TV ]

I had bought a few other little nick knacks that have always been on the 'To Get' list, but never got around to till this week.

All Ebay purchases .

I was looking for a footswitch for my VOX AC15 Trem/ Reverb, managed to get a mint used boxed VFS2A for $43 delivered..YES!

The VOX doesn't have channel switching, so I looked around for something that would allow this, again mint used boxed Morley ABY Mix, which had a starting price of $45, saw it had 13 watching, so decided to pay the buy it now price of $60, which is $90 less than a new one, this is cool as I can also have like a Strat/Tele in one input, and Gibson or Tokai [humbucker equipped] in another, and match the output of the two different pickup types into both channels of the amp.

While searching for different stuff, I came across video done by In the Blues YouTube channel, as Fender Strat news, testing different overdrive/distortion pedals, the Biyang X-Drive came out as equal first with some other multi thousand $$ UK built one, I found the seller, saw the price and thought why not, the Biyang cost me $63 new shipped, it has 3 chips which you can change to subtlety change the sound, I also ended up getting some of these butterfly plectrums, which I just tried a few minutes ago.....far better than any other finger/thumb picks I've tried, as they are so similar to not wearing finger/thumb picks at all, all for the princely sum of bugger all, under $5.

X-Drive demo video below

Also, after contacting the Ebay seller for Jetslide [see previous post ], I got him to adjust the postage costs to a realistic level for the whole package of two slides, one Brass one Steel, the Copper sleeve and two Glass sleeves as one package, he only has them priced individually otherwise, with each attracting their own postage costs, which ended up being over Aus$90 after exchange rates [stuff that]

So I'm waiting for those to arrive, it will be interesting to see how they perform.

Here's a link to Jetslide guy's Ebay store, he's the guy who makes them.

Just trying to get the full potential out of what I already have, for the most part..... all of the above only totaled in at under Aus$170

Trying to find decent cable to make up some guitar leads.

Know of anywhere is OZ that sells it off the reel in bulk?

I don't want to use MIC cable , as it rolls off the highs when used as a Guitar lead.

Sort of annoyed on Wednesday when I saw a mint Gibson 2010 spec'd SG Standard for sale on Ebay at a by it now price $200 more than I payed for the Tokai.... but then again, it might not be as good as the Tokai [which is flawless, except for the horrible strings fitted ]

Still there I gather.....Yep

I think the $150 postage is over the top, possible scam..???
