Hey.............anyone built a 12 string kit?

I was looking at this cheap arsed kit..............feedback?............or should I be the test case?

Never heard of them, but for that price it would a great starting point regardless of how crap it is. However, I reckon you would soon want to change pickups at least.

Pitbull have a pretty good name, but they are more expensive. And although they don't list a 12 string they will do one for you if you ask.

Personally I don't like 12 string anything, but each to their own! :)

Pretty much the same guitars as sold by Pitbull Guitars.....although I can't see any 12 string models anymore at their website.......they are made in Korea.

https://www.pitbullguitars.com/

You used to be able to just order the guitar [Neck & Body -still can from Pitbull I think] without the hardware, which is IMHO the best option, as the pickups are weak bar magnet type, and the tuners are not the best and the nut is very cheap plastic, usually with too much glue which has seeped into the wood and a PITA to remove.

The Tele and Strat style Kits should be OK......Just double check your kit has a decent truss rod, you'll certainly need it with a 12 string.

I bought several kit guitars from Pitbull, one a ES-335 style and another a ES-175 style and a Bass, the crappy neck joint is why I never bothered finishing building the two ES models.....I have a whole box of quality replacement parts for both these model guitars, as I only wanted the body and neck

Problem with those Gibson style kits is the neck joint, it's woeful on the ES-175, and only a bit better on the ES-335 kit [They can't sell kits that have the same neck joint as Gibson as it would breach copyright], not only that, the headstock on the ES-175 kit wasn't shaped properly, it's lop sided.

They were so cheap I didn't worry about it.........even though I bought two hard cases for them

I might get a cheap USED Epiphone or similar copy of both those style guitars and put the good hardware/pickups on them.

These kits are cheap for a reason.

If I'm doing a DIY kit I buy my neck & Bodies from ACE guitar parts......good quality stuff.

From the 20 or so  Rickenbacker guitars I've come across, I found they can vary in quality worse than Gibson.

Some of the fret jobs I've seen beggar belief that somebody at the factory actually allowed a guitar to leave in that state, not only roughly shaped, but not properly pressed into the fretboard.

Get a good one and they certainly have their own Jangle sound that is worth the effort in getting

Looks like a great unit. Probably 90% of my playing is straight into my DAW via the Clarett, has saved me a fortune on pedals. But I still spent a fortune on pedals!

What guitar processing are you using in your DAW.?

Plenty to choose from now days

I know AC/DC have been using IK MUltimedia Amplitube in the studio since 2003

Amplitube for quite a while, but now using Guitar Rig 6 mostly. I have really gone away from distortion and loving clean sounds with a bit of breakup, and GR6 does this better than Amplitube I reckon.

A cool video of my Ryan Nightingale (not me playing).

It sounds like one of those guitars that is very lightly built, very responsive.

It is a light guitar?

Lovely timbre and sustain. Not too much sparkle - great tone. And a lovely looking guitar too.

wow Vai's got a new machine.. holy moly this thing is off the charts!

Looks like he has copied a lot of Dweezel Zappas various strange guitars that are very similar, and built them into one body.

Why is it so rare?

Brazilian Rosewood?

Yes, plus Jim Olson has retired.

He hand built all his Olsons himself.

People like James Taylor swear by his creations....
