Tweaky Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Well I had a little win on Lotto last week, 5 numbers which got me pretty much exactly $2000 I noticed Manny's Music was having a EOFY sale, not huge discounts, but when buying a few things it all adds up. Finally they had some Yamaha BB434 4 string Bass guitars in stock, which I'd been trying to get for ages, but they have always been out of stock everywhere I looked.....so off to Manny's I went. The Yamaha BB434 cost me $689, and once getting it home realized why this model bass is so highly recommended, it's really well built with quality hardware fitted, especially at the asking price.....well except the fret job, I noticed some buzzing when first playing it, and though I'd get the fret rocker out to check them before making a truss rod adjustment, sure enough there are 6 or 7 frets that are slightly higher than the rest, so I'm going to have to level them....no biggy, as I have the tools and have done this plenty of times before. The fretboard itself is Rosewood and has a nice rolled edges, and unlike a lot of other guitars and Basses I've seen in this price range, the Rosewood is of good quality and tight grained. I have a lot of quality Guitar parts and Kinman pickups, and had been looking at getting a Epiphone SG Special fitted with P90's that was $789, as I wanted it basically only as a finished body so I could hot it up, but the Rosewood fretboard on that was a poor quality, you could put your fingernail in the spaces in the Rosewood.....something to check out if you are thinking of getting a new Epiphone guitar, it seems material quality used has gone down hill with their new guitars, construction is still good. One of the things I like most about the Yamaha bass is it's sturdy construction, they use 6 bolts to hold the neck on. Once I do a fret job on it this bass will be a killer, especially at the price. I bought a few other goodies to make using the Presonus Studio One 5 Pro I use in my DAW a LOT easier to use, and to program stuff with and to cut down mouse and keyboard use. I have been using a ARTURIA Keylab essential 61 to play the soft syths and piano in the ARTURIA V collection, the Keylab keyboard can also be used to control basic Start/Stop/Record etc functions in Studio One, but it means swapping functions on the Keylab to do that, which can get confusing and ultimately a bit clunky. This little beauty just solved that problem, I can have all controls active on it at all times, plus adding a footswitch allows me to arm/record immediately whilst at the Keyboard or play guitar or bass. Inputting drum parts on a Keyboard can be done, but I tend to forget which key on the Keyboard Is mapped to which drum or cymbal, which means editing it out when I've screwed up, plus it means I also have to switch out whatever soft synth I've been using to do it. So I bought one of these cheap little Presonus ATOM controllers to sort those problems out, I can assign each drum /cymbal to a separate pad and just play them from this, plus its active at all times, so no having to change anything else to use it. Quite a powerful little unit with a lot of adjust ability with things like pad sensitivity and attack times etc. To top it all off I treated myself to a new Microphone. I bought one of these RODE NT1 studio mic packs that come with shock mount, XLR cable and pop filter. I also bought a couple of new guitar cables, all up the whole lot cost me $1650, which is a bargain for all this gear as fare as I'm concerned .....Thank's Lotto. 7 1
Tweaky Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 Rhett Shull has just posted this video which I found quite informative, especially if you are using Amp Simulation, where you are likely to run across a Amp that you have never used before. 1

Mine's only a cheapie.............. ww.mannys.com.au/yamaha-trbx174-trbx-series-bass-guitar-black?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgffDy_rU-AIVgTgrCh3QqQe I've got the same Bass in Kit form, but have never got around to putting it together. I bought 3 kit guitars from Pitbull Guitars all at the same time a few years back, a ES- 335 type a ES-175 type and the same bass as above They seemed OK when I first got them, but during construction I realized that the neck joints on the 2 semi hollow body guitar kits left a lot to be desired, even with modifications, so I just didn't bother, so now I have a case full of quality guitar parts and Kinman pickups that I bought separately, that were going to be used on the kits doing nothing. The Bass guitar kit is OK though, I should construct it up. Also got a Tele and Strat necks / bodies I need put together, but MUCH higher quality that the Pitbull kits.......need to clear some work space, I'm surrounded with empty boxes I need to keep ATM

oztheatre Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I remember standing right at the front in 1989 at the hordern pavillion watching these monsters do their 'and justice for all' tour. Absolutely unforgettable. they opened with a song called blackened.. And if you like Trevor Firewood that song is for you haha. They do love their Gibson geetars that's for sure! This stage, that tour was pretty amazing. the entire theme and album was good even if Bob Rock commercialised them as he did with other bands. They stood the test of time. Kirk taught by Satriani too. Probably helps when the lead singer and guitarist remain in the band thru the decades too. 1

I wish Metallica would return back to a more simple sound, their newer stuff seems like there is too much going on and a bit joyless 1

Over production.. Why so many fans of different bands prefer their earlier material
oztheatre Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 The Cult from England. Billy Duffy on the gibson 335.. nice! These guys had a kicking rhythm section. That solo is rather epic, lots of artificial harmonics. He had some excellent tunes. Ian Astbury was a good singer too.. bit of goth, punk and whatever else. Ciao.. baby 2

Ciao.. baby I don't know why, but I sort of missed out on listening to The Cult. I'll amend that. I ended up giving my 1978 Gibson ES-347 to a mate a few weeks ago. Since I've gotten sick I found it way too heavy for me, especially when trying to move it when it was in it's case, I found I could no longer do it. I've still got a Strat, Tele's and SG, all a lot lighter, but I've found myself playing my Gibson Hummingbird the most lately, less likely to trip over a guitar cable 1

What about the Les Paul studio models? they're pretty light. Have a listen here, you'll hear the chorus and why they didn't put this on an album.. Heavily influenced by Queen.

Look at the headstock, I think you will find that it is actually his own signature model Gretsch White Falcon. I have the next model down, a black falcon, and these are pretty much top of the line for Gretsch. Their other top guitars such as the Tennessean, Chet Atkins varieties and Penguin, come in just under the Falcons. IMO all of them are better made and sounding guitars than the Gibson ES range. I don't even know why people bother with modern Gibsons, poor build quality at premium prices. YMMV.

He has many Gibsons but that Gretsch is a nice guitar!
Kristian Kristiansen Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 I will post some pics as they're coming out of their cases soon for some recording soon - but I have scaled back my guitars over the years - most recently I sold my lefty 1974 Les Paul Deluxe - I bought it from a famous recording studio in Mucle Shoals and while some people think that fitting a kahler locking trem and routing out the pickups to accommodate full size hummers is sacrilege - it really was my dream guitar for the swamp / space rock band I was in at the time... despite it weighing approx as much as a hyundai getz As someone who loves playing bass and guitar equally, an Eastwood Bass VI became my go-to instrument. I also have a 1982 MIJ tele and a music man stingray bass. As for amps - a classic 80s Trace Elliott ah350sm with UV backlight and 2x10 and 1x15 cabs After using orange and marshalls for years I bought a studiomaster valve leadmaster a few years ago - only 200 ever made - they go for a motza now - about 5 times what i paid - stunning 60 watt solid mahogany beast with amazing reverb here's the rock band i was in https://vancleef.bandcamp.com/track/mezzanine-demon-theme and here's the more electronic band i'm in now https://thanes.bandcamp.com/track/dreams 4
