Just a Head's Up.

Absolute BARGAIN going down ATM, but only on the premium Keyboards....worth it !!!!

I've spotted this bargain of the very well built Arturia Keylab MK2 range.

Arturia have two different levels of keyboards, the Essentials and the MK II.

IMHO, this is the biggest bargain I've seen in years.

88 or 61 note Keylab MKii midi keyboard, with V collection V9 [that's like AUS $800 worth of free software, and its amazing software ]

https://www.mannys.com.au/arturia-keylab-mk2-88-key-hammer-action-midi-controller-w-aftertouch-white

A absolute MONSTER of a deal.

Review of V9 collection

Review of Arturia Keylab 88 MK2

I've already got the V9 collection[updated it from V8].

This package is worth the outlay, far better built keyboard than the Novation 88 K Mk2

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Yamaha LL-16 Acoustic Guitars and how much of a bargain they are for a acoustic with solid top and sides.

I just found these two video comparisons of a Martin D-28 V's a LL-16 and the difference is little IMHO, except in the one important price area.

Currently the Yamaha LL-16 can be got for around the $1100, where the cheapest version of the Martin D-28 is around the $4400 mark.

I just thought I'd give a head's Up for those that might be looking at getting a new D-28 sized dreadnought acoustic, certainly worth checking out.

Here's something different to try if you haven't already, tuning to the slightly lower 432hz rather than the now universally used concert pitch of 440hz.

A lot of mumbo jumbo on why this change came about, but the difference is easy enough to hear.

[I suspect the change started to come about when Steinway started making the first metal frame pianos in 1825, they could take the added string tension of 440hz tuning without going out of tune.....just a theory ]

I've got an old Yamaha that is my go to accoustic.

Sounds fab.

Found it in a hock shop with 3 strings, a couple of missing tuners and a hole in the side of it!

Been keeping an eye out for an acoustic bass so I can practice & jam without an amp.
This came up at Ron Leigh’s for $649 & seemed pretty good value.

Built-in tuner on the Fisman Pre is handy.

Well it's a Sunday, and nothing else to do, so I thought a post about testing guitar strings would be a good interesting start to the day.

I was surprised with the outcome of the electric guitar strings, and equally about what string gauge to use on the acoustic.

What were you preferences ?

I agree with winner of the electric strings shootout, if they would have sounded as good with a Humbucker pickup fitted guitar ?, and I would have put the DR Blues a close second [ From reading comments to the video some have reported QC problems with them, pity]

I thought we had a thread here on guitar building. I looked and looked but found nothing.

Oh well, here is a zebrawood fretboard I recently machined. So nice to have this component precision made if nothing else. But for Fender style bodies I still use templates and a router table.

Here you go Sir!

It's been lazy (I do my guitar build posts on TDPRI, oh, the heresy!) but I get the odd build in there from time to time.

I'm in the middle, or three quarters of a Rosewood Tele-ish guitar, made of Jarrah... bit of a tribute to George Harrison after watching "Get Back".

Cheers,

Alberto

Very nice.

12" Radius ?

What fret wire are you going to put on it ?

10"-16" compound radius. Another advantage of the CNC. I used to hate doing fretboards, so much sanding only to find out I was not even and had one side higher than the other...

This fretboard doesn't have a home yet, but I only use Stainless or EVO fretwire.

Thanks, Alberto! I love the irony that I could not find a thread that I started. 😛

That Tele sounds awesome. I have been tempted myself as I have a good lump of Indian Rosewood bought for that very purpose. But I'm also thinking about resawing it into backs and sides for when I go acoustic. Currently too busy with family issues though.

Well my wife has just got an electric strung up with 7s and loves it!

We are going to try some 7s and 8s on her Pro 2 Stratocaster as well in place of the usual 9s.

And now for something completely different….Birthday present for the wife. Now I would never contemplate a white guitar, let alone gold hardware but this is gorgeous in the flesh and is a joy to play. Check out the double binding! Beautifully built and immaculately finished. Fender Japan Haruna Telecaster.

Oh, a little Vox AC10 for the home studio as well.

Jesus I’ve always used 11s.

I used to use 10s when I started as a young fella.
Then became obsessed with SRV.
I read once when I was a young teen that he used to superglue his left fingertips to his right forearm and rip the skin off. I thought that was badass. He was very hard on himself and if he had a bad night that he “played like a white guy”.

I think I still have 10 XLS on my Tele plus

Nice axes there @Ooogh

I missed this earlier, that looks amazing. You got a pic of the whole guitar or not on one yet?

I like the white Tele, it's something different, from what I understand it was made for lead guitarist Haruna, from the all girl Japanese band Scandal....there is a newer one that has just been released that has duel humbuckers.

You have to love the Japanese made guitars, they are so well made, and usually a dream the play.

My Japanese made guitars currently are a K.Yari acoustic and a MIJ Tokai SG

I've got a Telecaster in bits [ A project that's been sitting around longer than I care to admit 🙄 ], I've been wanting to make it a blend of White and Pearl using Pearl EX powdered pigment, my problem has been finding a reasonably cheap airgun that I can use that won't get clogged up by the powdered pigment.

You are indeed right @Tweaky and @Darryl. It was a little fact I was going to let through to the keeper. A white and gold Tele is one thing, but the signature guitar for an all girl Japanese pop group doesn’t exactly reek of cool! They are however huge over there and been going forever.

I had expected it to be a 2020 build, which I was going to use as a bargaining chip, but it is a 2022 and they are still making them, or may have just stopped with the new edition. I don’t think the new Haruna is quite as special, single silver pearl binding and double humbuckers. The DiMarzio humbucker sounds rather good and gives a nice full tone.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I reckon it looks great 👍

I’ve got 5 Squier Avril Lavigne Teles in the cupboard 😝

A long time ago, in the mid 80s I had a 15 year old Fender Precision Bass, which I sold after being jobless.

I am thinking of buying a Squier version, just because I can, not to play. Is this a waste of a Bass?

Or... do I spend the extra $1000 and get the Fender.

I always say don’t look at the tags and pick them up until one just feels right.

There are crap guitars that come out of the line and just magnificent ones.
