Anyone used the Synology NAS as a music player?

As in direct USB to, say, AP2, and then DAC?

How does the sound compare to a, say, Mac Mini, or dedicated streamer, or CDP?

I use the 212j, flawless so far.

I only use the audio station to stream to my iPhone.  I didn't realise you could output sound from the Synology USB into a DAC?

My current digital setup is the PSAUDIO PWD II connected via the bridge to Synology 1010 NAS and a Mac Mini running Jriver 19.  Very happy with this setup

The PS Audio got really good reviews. Do you find the iPhone app/ remote easy to use?

I couldn't get Audio Station working on the iPhone. Its not pretty enough for me anyway. ;)

You mean PSAUDIO iphone app (I think it is elyric) ?   No I use Jriver and Jremote much nicer apps.   Jriver/Jremote integrates nicely with the PSAUDIO Bridge (ethernet).

Getting the iPhone app requires a bit of configuration work usually on the router.

If you are on the wifi network at home you should be able to put in your IP address for your synology and the login details and it should just work.

If you want to access your synology and audio station remotely from the internet then usually you need to configure the DDNS service, and setup port forwarding rules in your router to the synology IP address.  I only allow HTTPS traffic.

the Audiostation iPhone app is not to bad to look at, see some screen shots

iTunes shows all the artwork, but on DS Station (via IP) and Audio station app doesn't like showing them.

I have pretty much given up!

I am assuming you run Jriver server from a Mac/ PC?
