francis wu Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 Good news for those who find the Bixby button a nuisance. You can now disable it! :) https://www.androidcentral.com/how-completely-disable-bixby?utm_medium=superfeature&utm_campaign=navigation&utm_source=ac
Hass Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 April will be Note 9, than follow by S10 :) I'll wait for the 11 then ;D ;D ok seriously, isn't note releases every Sep? S releases is Jan or Apr?
francis wu Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Yes, S series from Mar - Apr and Note series from Aug - Sept! Seriously, the Note 8 is still the best Android phone you can buy NOW! :)

Seriously, the Note 8 is still the best Android phone you can buy NOW! :) best in what sense? If just comparing the S8+ & N8, whats the diff other than they Stylus? I went to check out N8 during lunch just now.. compared the cam to my note 5. Dunno what happened but my N5 cam suddenly cannot focus, colours become washed out, dunnoe wat magic they do to the lighting that only the N8 can take nice pics!

Mainly the camera and its a big difference with the optical zoom, image stabiliser & dual lense. not good not good....
francis wu Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 If you have the S8 then there is no sense in upgrading to the N8 for the little extra features and minimal improvements! But jumping from N5, there is a huge upgrade in specs and features, so go for the top instead of the S8 or S8+....YMMV Btw, is there Samsung Pay in your N5?

Yes, N5 has Samsung pay but I've not used it before. Yeah agree, wont go for the S8+. Its between Note 8 or S9. If the S9 is going to have the same cam as the Note 8, I'd rather wait (if its gonna be out in Jan). Apr might be too long, not sure if my N5 can survive that long. I'm already clearing pics every other day to free up storage and battery only last half a day with heavy usage. oh, I didn't notice the new phones talking about water proof much although its in the specs. Can I bring any of these phones for a swim or snorkelling and take under water pics?
francis wu Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 There are very small differences in image quality between the S8 and N8! N8 improves on dim light and night shots a little, and better bokeh effects due to the dual lens! Daylight shots are about the same! Sure you can but I m not going to test my S8 though ;D [embed=525,349] [/embed]
neeravks Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Careful bro, wait Apple fanboys hit on you...remember it is 1 in a million chance that someone can simply use Face ID to unlock your phone...but Apple can't help it if you are being careless and allow the perpetrator to point the phone at your face to unlock the phone...LoL Isnt it the same with touch id? force you to unlock your phone using touch id? I am confused?
desray Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Isnt it the same with touch id? force you to unlock your phone using touch id? I am confused? It’s the little things like the way you use your hand to hold a pen or chopsticks that matters. It’s too soon to tell whether it will be a flop at this point...but you can’t deny the fact that using Touch ID on a “touch based” phone is much more intuitive and natural to use. Make no mistake, I m not here bashing the Face ID, I’m just sharing my thoughts on how I perceive it. I may be wrong and my concern probably unfounded at the end of the day. desray Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 For note 8 users, if you haven't done so already, you may want to update the Bixby app now as updates already avail since yesterday evening. Quickly get rid of that annoying Bixby button. Sent from my Note 8 using Tapatalk

desray Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Yep...let’s see how it develops towards year end. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
francis wu Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 Apple’s FaceID is more secured than TouchID, no doubt about that but it’s slower in unlocking the phone, even worst if you have to swept up to confirm that face recognition has taken place! :P With fingerprint sensor at the rear of most Android phone, your finger has already unlocked the phone when you bring it out of your pocket! This user experience IMO is much faster and more refined ;D. YMMV

I doubt is good enough... it should cause alot of frustration to users
francis wu Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 You decide... :) https://phandroid.com/2017/09/20/face-unlock-samsung-vs-lg/
desray Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Both phones did reasonably well and I believe Face ID in Apple's new flagship should do equally if not better. I even believe the Face ID on the iPhone X can do much more like side facing the screen, eliminating the need to look at the screen at a straight on. This is highly plausible considering there are "multi points facial recognition" at play and A11 bionic chipset is more than powerful to handle all these computations at the backend. After watching the video on S8 and V30, I can say Face ID does indeed live up to its promise of being secure but whether it is a convenient, only when we use it then we know since this seems to be the "only" secure unlock feature with nothing to fall back on accept for the rudimentary passcode as the next layer of defense for unauthorised login. redryder Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I bought a note 8 two weeks ago, still exploring and learning about the phone after being an iphone user for so long. Are you guys using iris or face unlock? I find the iris unlock more troublesome to use compared to touchID, but face unlock works well so far. For iris need to hold the phone up at certain angle then can work.
francis wu Posted September 28, 2017 Author Posted September 28, 2017 I use both fingerprint and face unlock for user experience. Very reliable and fast! :)
