mickj1 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Found this young shining bronze-cuckoo while out today: Here is the pic with the fuzz cropped out as Al suggested That's funny - the second one looks more vibrant than the first in the original pic, but not when I post it here!! Cheers Mick Edited February 11, 2015 by mickj1 4
betty boop Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 lovely shot mick, love the shades of colour...though I'd crop off the fuzz on the right and then frame it 1
mickj1 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Good idea Al, I usually tend to just stay with 6:4 but it could stand the crop probably. Otherwise, I'd just put a suitable mask over the print. Cheers mick
~Spyne~ Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 A couple I've managed to snap over the last couple of weeks (don't get out much). I feel limited by the Olympus XZ2, but I'm sure it's much more to do with my lack of skill and experience This is the original, taken at 10:30pm tonight on the way home from basketball. A little walkway under the railway that I've always wanted to try and get a shot of at night And here's two attempts at some basic clicking buttons and moving sliders in DXO Optics 8 (I'm literally a blind man fumbling about in any post-processing software I use) Here's a couple I took at one of the gardens/reserves just out of Ballarat 7
mickj1 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 @~Spyne~I like the effect given by the alternating colours of the lights in the arches in the original it's interesting and draws the eye into the picture.. This effect gets a bit lost in both of your mods. Can you use your software to enhance that effect? the bee pic is good, but the focus is more on the Agapanthus - you've done a good job to capture the blosssoms and the bee without blowing out the white and losing detail in the petals. All only IMO of course Cheers Mick

I prefer the original pic as the others are a bit dark and here's my quick attempt at getting that glossy bright street art look complete with enhanced lighting effect. Best I could do from a low res jpg. Edited February 11, 2015 by KenTripp 2
~Spyne~ Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Now that's just no fair, Ken! Nice work for a quickie - I'm not even sure if my version of DXO can do something like that. I might have another play around tonight and see what I can come up with. Admittedly, the two that I posted did come out roughly how I wanted - the impression of a much darker tunnel while retaining most of the graffiti detail and some colour highlights (though they are more muted than I would have liked).

Apologies, hope you didn't mind the taken liberty. DxO, even the free version 8 should have all the tools. Here's the LR settings I used but there are always many different ways to get to the same or different result. DxO OpticsPro 10 is said to do a few things better than LR but for $10 a month it's pretty hard to beat Adobe's LR + PhotoShop Creative Cloud bundle. Edited February 12, 2015 by KenTripp 1
betty boop Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 nice end result there ken nice tunnel who there spyne, somewhere in melb ?
~Spyne~ Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Ballarat. And no mind at all, Ken. Was good to see what can be achieved 1
~Spyne~ Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Another crack. I couldn't get the sharp white highlights like in your's Ken, nor isolate the nearest light to reduce the 'glare' (can't seem to isolate objects/select areas in DXO...you work with the whole image at once). Still, a better effort - certainly helps having something to aim towards I guess 3
~Spyne~ Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Some of the stunners at today's Ballarat Beat Festival. 3 issues - crap-tonne of people all walking within a small space, crazy bright sun, only had my phone camera on hand (Galaxy S2). Edited February 14, 2015 by ~Spyne~ 3
