A victim of internet success?

So my brother-in-law tells me until we walked in and I pointed out that the entire complex had a structural issue.  The roof plumbing has been breached and what use to be a buzzing full off small traders occupying the shop front has vacated and left.  Parts of the complex has had a severe water leak and its gone right all 3 floors.  I thought the builders in Melbourne took short cuts but this is far worst.  There's something about buildings in China that they do not take the same waterproofing.  Even though it's currently built, buildings that are 6yrs old are showing signs of rising damp, paint peeling off walls etc etc and what makes the issue so much worst is the debilitating moisture in the air.  At 26C the humidity is 87-95%.  You sweat and keep on sweating!  Without refrigerated air I have no idea how one survives, between 11.00am to 6:30pm it so debilitating that standing outside is so hard to bear especially when the sun is on full strength with no breeze.

The Chinese are right into tangerines :D

The older the tangerine peel the more expensive the item

There's a personal funny story.....it involves Australian customs and Australia Post!

Customs will not allow this product into Australia especially the peels, but there is a way; you pay approx $200 to have it sterile, it goes to an oven and it sits there for 85C for 5hrs.  It then gets sent to you via registered post.  So the bosses mum sent this stuff to her auntie here in Aust via our luggage.  We had this done on arrival, when we got the red card to say a package has arrived and waiting, my son picked it up thinking it was his package, so he had to queue up for 45mins at Sanctury Lake Post Office thinking it was his package.  When he got it home he was furious he waited 45mins for dried out citrious peels.  :D

Theres also tangerine tea!

Haha yes, have you seen an entire village, roofs all covered in tangerine/mandarin/orange skins drying in the sun?  :)

Traditionally used in Chinese medicine (antioxidant, digestive remedy) & in Chinese cooking.

Cheers, Owen

@Addicted to music right, it's the other one in the middle :D , how come no tea pictures yet? everyone has to attend tea shop ceremony at least once a trip :P

if you find the time you should try traditional Cantonese chicken once you're in that region ;)

I got told off taking this pic of chickens hanging on display.  I've been brought up on caged chickens and the ones in China are a bit tough and taste very different.  They either steam it or have them marinaded in soy source, Even deep fry,  but what I like the most is the mixed  crushed ginger and garlic in peanut oil and salt.  Dip a piece of chicken in that will make a delightful mouthful.

We also usually go to a tea shop where my bother-In-law uses and get to sample tea at its freshest.  I did a tea cerimony when I was in touring Beijing .  Interesting place to but don't purchase anything they sell there, what they demonstrate isn't what you get; hence I no longer purchase stuff in China or HK in my travels.

the one with yellow skin and steamed is Cantonese and taste different than any other I tried but I liked it :)

in every tea shop I've been so far (with local guys of course) what they sell they have to let you try first, from same bag out of freezer

where are above pictures from? good looking place...

Would you believe some of these 3 wheelers are electric..:D

you don't even know they are behind you until it comes in line of sight.

I've seen one of these carrying slaughtered livestock rolling down main road headed to a restaurant hanging in the roof of a tray, no refrigeration, exposed to the elements which is 31C and 90% humidity.

Ive seen a family of 4 and a portable air conditioner on a bike, only the rider had a helmet on.
