Yes Mick, correct on both observations mate,:)

I'm doing another "outing" with like minded budding photographers this Wednesday around the "harbour", hope to have better light and be ready for sun set.

Thanks for the comments, sorry the pics are so big.

Hi Monsieur V

So how did the harbour photo shoot pull up?

Cheers

I went to watch my Grandson play junior football this morning. I had some fun with the camera ;)

These were taken at the field today.

Sorry it has taken a while to post a reply Mick,

I did not attend the day out due to foul weather unfortunately. The day was offered to me by the instructor as the previous outing in the blue Mtns was also a shocker, a sort of second chance though I have used up my points though as the instructor claims the Sydney day went ahead anyway!

Bummer!

Hi

As Jim Morrison said - 'that's crap' - sorry to hear it though icon9.gif

Still there's probably enough keen photography SNAers in Sydney that you could organise your own photographic GTG :eek: - I can think of a few themes;

1. Use of the macro in photographing cables

2. Application of DOF to tone arms

3. Pixel-peeping, sensor size and their ramifications for determining relative aesthetics of TTs Vs CDPs

etc

Hi

well I managed to get one Spearmint, but he was a bit disillusioned about being turned away from the Billy Ray Cyrus concert...

Well done Mick, great photos.

Were these done with the 70-300mm lens?

I'm very happy with the results I'm getting with my 70-300mm lens.

Hi Minty

Yes mine were with the 70-300mm lens - you must be pleased with the results you're getting - a good investment me thinks

Some great pics here, and although the following were taken with a $400 Fujifilm FD 1000 I thought I would post them anyhow. They were taken in and around El Nido in Palawan, Philippines.

Which version of the 70-300mm are people using? Does it have the focusing motor in the lens or not?

My Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 was send back due to back focusing which couldn't be fixed so now I am trying to find another lens... but need the focusing motor in the lens...

I also have a Sigma 150mm and I primarily shoot macro. It can be done, it just takes a lot of practice. Please don't freeze bugs - it's unethical and inhumane. My website is here:

Cheers,

Dave

steady hands mate, steady hands.

I am teaching myself this technique by placing the sigma on manual focus, set it to minimum focus and then move back and forth.

Very hard indeed, but figure makes good practice.

No way you would try it on live bugs. Frozen ones though don't get scared ;)

minty, i hear the nikon is also brilliant macro lens, in fact, i don't think i have heard o any bad macro.

what put me off a few of the 3rd party ones was they extended when focusing..ok for flowers but not good for little bugs.

Hi

Great photos Dave - your website is also excellent - gives me another something to aspire to.

Liked your evaluation of gear - but do you still think Sony is a bit on the outer? - they seem to have been getting good reviews of their latest top-end stuff.

I wouldn't touch a Sony if you paid me. I dislike that company immensely. Some of their latter products are improving, but Canon & Nikon still make better products imho.

Thanks for the kinds words on the images and website. Website was designed by me, coded by hand, using notepad. No dreamweaver for this lad. And it's W3C compliant on both html and css. You don't see many web developers doing that these days ;-)
